This is a 24-month graduate internship opportunity within the Labour Relations field at the Government Printing Works (GPW) in Pretoria. The position is part of the department’s broader Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year, designed to give unemployed South African graduates meaningful workplace exposure and practical experience in their area of study. As an intern, you will be placed within the labour relations environment, where you will receive structured training and on-the-job development under the guidance of experienced professionals. The programme is intended to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world practice, allowing you to build competencies that are directly relevant to labour relations and labour law.

To be considered, you must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Labour Relations or Labour Law. You must be a South African citizen and currently unemployed. Importantly, applicants should not have previously participated in any internship programme, and failure to disclose such participation will result in immediate termination of the contract on grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment. This requirement ensures that the opportunity is directed at graduates who have not yet had formal workplace exposure through an internship.

Your main duties as an intern will include actively participating in workplace activities, contributing to projects, and engaging in capacity-building initiatives. You will work closely with supervisors and experienced professionals who will provide mentorship and structured exposure to labour relations functions. This may include assisting with case management, disciplinary processes, grievance handling, policy implementation, and other related tasks, all within the context of the GPW’s operational environment. The programme is designed to develop your practical skills, professional conduct, and understanding of public service labour relations practices.

Applications must be submitted using the new Z83 application form, which is available from any Public Service Department or online. You must indicate the correct job title and reference number in the email subject line, and use the email address specified for this post. Applications submitted on the old Z83 form will not be considered, and each post requires its own fully completed, initiated, and signed application form. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of qualifications and other relevant documents before the interview. If you hold foreign qualifications, you must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Please note that applications with scanned pictures, zipped files, or image formats will not be accepted, and faxed or late applications will be disqualified.

The selection process includes personnel suitability checks, and shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews at a date and time determined by the GPW. Successful candidates will be required to sign an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, you consent to the collection and processing of your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). If you do not receive feedback within three months after the closing date, you should consider your application unsuccessful. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to launch your career in labour relations within a government printing environment.
