This position offers an opportunity to join the Office of the Chief Justice as a Junior Functional Application Support specialist, based at the National Office in Midrand. The role is a salary level 08 post and the successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement. As part of the broader ICT support environment, this role is central to ensuring that enterprise business systems remain stable, responsive, and aligned with user needs. The incumbent will work within a team that supports the administration of justice by maintaining critical applications, troubleshooting incidents, and enabling end users to work effectively.

Candidates must hold a National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a relevant equivalent qualification at NQF level six, recognised by SAQA. At least two years of experience in the relevant field is required, and a valid driver's licence is considered an added advantage. The role demands a broad technical and functional knowledge base, including systems maintenance and support, software integration testing, system integration testing, user acceptance testing, and the development of functional and non-functional specifications. A solid understanding of enterprise business systems, software configuration and release principles, and system implementation methodologies is essential. Knowledge of customer relationship management, business continuity, disaster recovery procedures, and the Batho Pele Principles is also expected. The successful candidate will need strong technical, problem-solving, time management, and communication skills, along with presentation, report writing, project management, interpersonal, planning, and organising abilities.

The core duties revolve around providing second line support to solve operational incidents and ensuring that applications are tested thoroughly across various environments. The role involves analysing functional application issues, recommending potential enhancements, and drafting detailed test plans before any changes are undertaken. The incumbent will monitor system and application performance proactively, identify potential issues, and escalate complex problems to third line support when necessary. Conducting system and user acceptance testing is a key responsibility, as is contributing to the development and maintenance of technical and support documentation. The role also supports the creation of ICT technical and operational specifications for implementation. User access reviews must be conducted, and the candidate will administer and allocate roles and permissions, configure audit roles when required, and ensure that users are granted appropriate access. Training users on application features, functionality, and basic troubleshooting is a significant part of the job, as is providing technical guidance and ensuring smooth application updates and deployments with minimal disruption to users. Accurate records must be kept according to departmental protocols, and the incumbent will monitor and follow up on logged incidents, liaise with end users, respond to reported issues through various channels, and implement solutions based on documented procedures and knowledge base articles.

This post is advertised through the Public Service Vacancy Circular, and the organisation will give preference to candidates in line with its Employment Equity goals. Given the need to interact with users and provide hands-on support, a service-oriented mindset and the ability to communicate clearly are important. The role offers a chance to grow within a structured public-sector environment while contributing to the technological resilience of a key constitutional institution.
