Ukhozi FM, one of South Africa's most prominent radio stations, is offering an internship opportunity for a Station Administrator within its Radio division. The successful candidate will report directly to the Business Manager at Ukhozi FM and will play a key supporting role in ensuring that sound financial and administrative processes are in place to support the effective day-to-day operations of the station. This is an entry-level development position suited to a candidate who has recently completed a relevant qualification and who wishes to build a career in broadcasting administration, office management, or media operations.
Applicants must hold a Diploma in Office Management or Administration, Communication, Media Studies, or a related qualification at NQF Level 6. Practical proficiency in the SAP system is essential, as is a basic understanding of the broadcasting industry and media environment. Strong filing system development and management skills, basic finance principles, and an understanding of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) are required. The role also demands excellent verbal and written communication skills, a customer-service orientation, problem-solving ability, planning and organising skills, time management, and the capacity to analyse and interpret data and trends. Computer literacy across a range of office applications, along with solid minute-taking skills, is also expected.
The core responsibilities span a broad range of administrative and financial support functions. The intern will support management in capturing discussions around the development and implementation of the station's business strategy, capture all strategic documents, and file them appropriately. They will plan, organise, and control administrative activities within their area of operation and prepare participants for strategy engagements by creating templates, guidelines, and briefs. A significant part of the role involves managing the value chain around sourcing new freelance contracts, processing freelance and supplier payments, facilitating travel bookings, and processing subsistence and travel (S&T) and KM claims for staff and management. The intern will also handle general payment and administration queries, coordinate the station manager's diary for internal and external meetings, and ensure the timeous and accurate preparation and management of documentation.
Additional duties include developing and managing both electronic and manual filing systems for easy retrieval of information, ensuring sensitive documents are appropriately secured, drafting memos, minutes, and monthly reports, arranging venues and refreshments for meetings, and accurately taking minutes with professional proofreading of official correspondence. The intern will coordinate meetings, farewells, workshops, and station visits, and will direct visitors to their destinations. Compliance is a key theme, with the intern expected to adhere to South Africa's Constitution, broadcasting and other legislation, Icasa regulations, the BCCSA Code of Conduct, SABC editorial policies, and the radio news and current affairs style guide. They will assist in developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures, respond to risk imperatives to protect organisational integrity, prevent financial loss, and ensure compliance with applicable policies and legislation, including Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Finally, the role requires attending to internal and external customer queries and complaints, working in conjunction with all radio station units' objectives, communicating with stakeholders, contracting on the SABC Performance Management System, being a team player, providing leadership when required, coaching and mentoring junior team members where applicable, and participating in employee relations campaigns to foster a conducive and productive working environment.
