The Office of the Chief Justice is offering a single internship opportunity at its Northern Cape Provincial Service Centre, aimed at graduates who have completed a three-year National Diploma in Human Resource Management or Industrial Psychology. This internship forms part of the broader provincial service centre operations, which provide administrative and support services to the judiciary in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be based at the service centre and will gain hands-on experience within a human resource environment, working under the guidance of HR professionals and contributing to the day-to-day functioning of the unit. The role is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and workplace practice, giving the intern exposure to public sector HR processes, policies, and procedures within the context of the judicial branch.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate as well as a three-year National Diploma in Human Resource Management or Industrial Psychology at NQF level 6 with 360 credits, or an equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA. This is a strict requirement, and candidates with foreign qualifications must ensure their qualifications are accompanied by an evaluation confirming equivalence. The internship is an entry-level developmental post, so no prior work experience is specified, but a solid academic foundation in HR or industrial psychology is essential.
While the specific duties are not itemised in the advertisement, the intern should expect to be assigned tasks that support the human resource management functions of the Northern Cape Provincial Service Centre. This may include assisting with recruitment and selection processes, maintaining employee records, supporting performance management activities, and helping with HR administration and queries. The intern will also be expected to comply with the policies and procedures of the Office of the Chief Justice, including entering into an employment contract and a performance agreement within three months of appointment, and undergoing a security clearance process. These are standard conditions for successful candidates.
The selection process is rigorous. All shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to test technical and generic suitability for the post, and an integrity assessment to evaluate ethical conduct. The results of these assessments will be used as an additional criterion during the interview. Candidates may also be asked to provide consent for access to their social media accounts as part of the vetting process. In addition, all appointments are subject to a personnel suitability check, which includes criminal record, financial, qualification, citizenship, reference, and employment verification. The Office of the Chief Justice complies with the Protection of Personal Information Act, and all personal information provided will be used solely for recruitment purposes, with unsuccessful applications retained for internal audit purposes.
Applicants must take care to complete the application correctly. The application must be submitted on the new Z83 form, fully completed, signed, and initialled on both pages, and accompanied by a comprehensive CV with contactable referees. The correct job title, office, and reference number must be indicated. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in disqualification. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and if no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful. The department reserves the right not to make any appointment. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate in HR or industrial psychology to launch their career within the public sector and gain valuable experience in a judicial support environment.
