This internship opportunity, situated within the infrastructure department and based at the Information Centre, is designed specifically for graduates who have completed a BCom in Entrepreneurship. Three internship positions are available, offering a structured work-based learning experience that bridges academic knowledge with practical application in the public sector and local economic development. The programme operates as a fixed-term internship contract, providing successful candidates with valuable exposure to the operational realities of a municipal environment. Interns will be based within a department that supports business growth and local economic planning, giving them a unique vantage point on how government facilitates entrepreneurship and development at the grassroots level.

The core eligibility requirement is a recognised BCom degree in Entrepreneurship, with applicants also required to hold a Grade 12 certificate. This is a graduate-level internship, so the focus is on developing competencies in business development, stakeholder engagement, and administrative support within a municipal context. The role is structured to allow the intern to apply theoretical knowledge from their degree to real-world projects, particularly those related to local economic development (LED). The internship is graded at an entry-level professional position, reflective of its capacity-building purpose.

Under the direct supervision of the LED Manager, the successful intern will take on a range of responsibilities that are central to the smooth functioning of the unit. A key part of the role involves assisting with stakeholder communication and responding to enquiries, which requires professional written and verbal communication skills. The intern will also be tasked with preparing minutes, agendas, and other meeting documentation, ensuring that all administrative records are accurate and well-organised. Another significant duty is assisting with data collection, capturing, and analysis, which supports evidence-based decision-making for local economic development initiatives. In addition, the intern will provide support for business development and day-to-day administrative activities, helping to keep the unit’s operations running efficiently. Participation in entrepreneurship programmes, workshops, and meetings is also expected, offering hands-on exposure to how such events are planned and executed in a government setting.
