This internship opportunity sits within the Video Entertainment division of a Gauteng-based public broadcaster, reporting directly to the Digital Manager. The role is designed for a candidate who is eager to apply their technical and creative skills to the planning, coordination, and delivery of digital content across multiple online and social media platforms. As an intern, you will be embedded in the digital product environment, helping to translate the broader digital platform strategy into a practical content rollout plan. This means you will be responsible for collating content according to that plan, ensuring it is delivered on time, and coordinating the gathering of metadata so that all information on the organisation’s digital and social media channels remains current, accurate, and engaging. The context is a fast-paced media environment where digital and linear broadcasting teams must work together to maintain consistency in material usage and storytelling.

To be considered, you need a National Diploma in Information Technology or an equivalent qualification. A solid understanding of digital systems and technologies is essential, including experience or familiarity with content management platforms such as WebSphere, Joomla, or WordPress, as well as social media channels like Facebook and Twitter, and video-on-demand services. You should also have an analytical mindset when it comes to digital platforms, meaning you can interpret click-through rates, page impressions, and similar metrics to understand audience behaviour. Basic video editing, conversion, and transcoding skills are required, along with the ability to create and maintain compelling websites. A genuine understanding of social media platforms and how to connect with target audiences is crucial, as is a strong desire to stay abreast of new media developments and trends.

Your main duties will involve liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to collate relevant content for planning and exploitation onto digital platforms. You will help plan and theme content so that it aligns with consumer consumption patterns, and you will be expected to innovate ways of delivering content that tell an online story in a fresh and engaging manner using all available mediums. You will formulate deliverables and ensure they are completed to the correct standard and within deadlines. Monitoring assigned digital platforms is also a key responsibility, allowing you to assess requirements, respond to viewership patterns, and use those trends to formulate content exploitation strategies. You will also effect digital marketing campaigns to promote content, work in conjunction with linear programming teams to ensure consistency in material usage, and collate supporting metadata and images for content. Compliance with Video Entertainment policies and procedures, as well as the organisation’s broadcasting regulatory provisions, is a non-negotiable part of the role.

Notably, this position does not involve shift work, but long and irregular working hours may be necessary on occasion to meet content deadlines or cover live events. This is an internship, so it offers valuable hands-on experience in a national broadcaster’s digital product space, ideal for someone looking to build a career in digital media, content management, or online audience engagement. The role is based in Gauteng and is part of a structured internship programme, so you will be expected to learn quickly, work collaboratively, and contribute meaningfully to the digital team from day one. If you are passionate about digital content, social media, and video technology, and you meet the qualifications and skills outlined, this internship provides an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise in a professional broadcasting environment.
