The Gauteng Tourism Authority is offering a 24-month internship focused on creative digital design and content production, aimed at a dynamic and ambitious creative digital content producer who wants to help shape the organisation’s online presence and grow its digital audience. Based within the organisation’s communications and marketing environment, the intern will work on integrated digital content strategies across multiple platforms, with the core purpose of driving brand awareness for Gauteng as a tourism and investment destination, building digital communities, and converting online engagement into measurable brand loyalty. This is an entry-level professional opportunity for someone with a strong creative portfolio and a solid understanding of how digital storytelling, visual design and multimedia production work together to support destination marketing.

The role covers a broad range of responsibilities. The intern will research, conceptualise and develop compelling digital content that promotes Gauteng’s tourism, investment, events and destination brand narratives, and will assist in brainstorming original multimedia storytelling concepts aligned to GTA and Visit Gauteng campaigns. This includes creating audience-centric content using visual, written, audio and video techniques, and supporting content calendars and plans tied to key tourism marketing periods. On the design side, the intern will produce high-quality visual assets such as graphics, infographics, social media images, posters, signage, presentation decks and promotional materials, all in line with the GTA corporate identity. They will also help maintain brand communication toolkits and asset libraries, ensuring consistency across all platforms. Multimedia production is another major component, involving shooting, editing and optimising short-form and long-form video content, capturing photography for real-time and post-event storytelling, developing motion graphics, reels and promotional clips, and assisting with planning, scripting and post-production. The intern will also support digital broadcast content, particularly podcast production, by helping with research, scripting, recording, editing, episode graphics, video snippets, audiograms and distribution across streaming platforms. Website and digital platform content management forms part of the role too, including creating and updating content for the GTA and Visit Gauteng websites and mobile app, adapting content for social media and email marketing, and supporting publishing, scheduling and quality assurance. In addition, the intern will help implement digital engagement strategies, monitor content performance, contribute innovative ideas and emerging trends, and support real-time digital coverage of campaigns and events. Finally, they will assist with digital analytics, preparing performance reports and dashboards, and monitoring industry best practices.

To be considered, applicants need a National Diploma or Degree in digital media, multimedia design, graphic design, digital communications, marketing, journalism, film and television production, public relations or a related field. They must demonstrate knowledge of digital content creation, multimedia storytelling and visual communication, and be proficient in graphic design, video editing and content production tools. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects or Adobe Audition, as well as Canva, is required. Understanding of social media platforms, website content management systems, digital publishing tools, podcast production and audio editing is also expected. Strong written, visual and digital storytelling skills, a basic understanding of digital analytics, and excellent organisational, time-management and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The GTA is an equal opportunity employer and encourages previously disadvantaged individuals and people with disabilities to apply. Applications must be submitted with a detailed CV, cover letter and certified copies of qualifications dated not older than three months, following the application instructions provided.
