This internship position sits within the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s Video Entertainment division, specifically the Sport content unit, and reports directly to the Manager: Sport Content. The role is essentially an administrative and coordination post focused on keeping the sport broadcasting department audit-ready and operationally efficient. The incumbent will organise and coordinate the department’s administration and audit documentation, ensuring that all broadcast-related documents for television, radio and digital platforms are received timeously, correctly filed and readily available for audit purposes. The role also involves developing and overseeing departmental communication protocols, streamlining administrative procedures and supporting inventory control under the manager’s leadership.
Candidates must hold a National Diploma at NQF level 6 in Project Management, Media Studies, Communications, Business Administration or a related qualification. They should have a sound understanding of policies and standard operating procedures, possess general knowledge, and be computer literate in Microsoft applications, SAP and the internet. The role demands creativity, innovation, proactivity and an action-oriented approach. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for establishing and maintaining good relationships, along with excellent written and verbal communication, meticulous attention to detail, and solid planning and organisation abilities.
The duties are wide-ranging and central to the smooth running of the sport content department. The coordinator reconciles monthly schedules for radio and television, assists with consolidating and coordinating business plan inputs, and ensures that all FCC and Music Cue Sheets are delivered to the station. They coordinate the delivery of required material for timeous transmission, maintain departmental record keeping in line with Video Entertainment’s file plan management policies, and coordinate internal and external audit requirements. They also help prepare presentations and materials for meetings and strategic planning sessions for radio output, assist with submitting divisional reports, presentations and documents to various approval committees, and support workflow planning and the rollout of new initiatives within the department.
Beyond routine administration, the role ensures that departmental standard operating procedures, service level agreements and policies are updated, approved and distributed as required for all television stakeholders. It involves reconciling all sport content delivered against contractual commitments, reconciling monthly sport schedules for radio, and producing monthly reports on language delivery across all sport local magazine shows and live sport broadcasts. The coordinator also assists with preparing documentation and information for publication on radio digital platforms to support ongoing information sharing. Stakeholder liaison is a key component, requiring effective, professional interfaces with both internal and external parties and the development of sound relationships relevant to Video Entertainment. Compliance with the department, division and organisational governance framework is critical, including managing the departmental operational risk register with monthly reporting and system updating.
This is an internship opportunity, making it an entry-level position within a major public broadcaster. It offers valuable exposure to the full content administration cycle in sport broadcasting, from scheduling and compliance to audit preparation and stakeholder engagement. Candidates should be prepared to work in a fast-paced media environment where accuracy, timeliness and adherence to governance are essential. The role is well suited to a recent graduate seeking practical experience in broadcast administration, project coordination and content operations within the sport division.
