The Government Printing Works (GPW) is offering a 24-month graduate internship in Internal Audit, based at its Pretoria centre. This position forms part of the GPW's Graduate Programme for the 2027/2029 financial year, which is designed to provide unemployed graduates with structured workplace experience. The successful candidate will be placed within the internal audit environment and will receive on-the-job training and exposure that is directly relevant to their academic background. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, the intern will be expected to engage actively with workplace activities, contribute to projects, and take part in capacity-building initiatives. The programme aims to help the intern develop practical skills and professional competence in the field of internal auditing.

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must hold a National Diploma or a Degree in Internal Auditing or Accounting Science. They must be South African citizens and must be unemployed at the time of application. A key requirement is that candidates must not have previously participated in an internship programme; any failure to disclose prior participation will lead to immediate termination of the internship contract, as it is treated as an act of dishonesty. Applicants who obtained their qualifications outside of South Africa are responsible for having their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and must submit the evaluation results before being considered further.

The duties of the intern are centred on gaining hands-on experience in the internal audit function. This includes learning how to execute audit procedures, participating in workplace projects, and assisting with various audit-related activities as directed by supervisors. The structured nature of the programme ensures that the intern is gradually exposed to different aspects of internal audit work, while also benefiting from mentorship and feedback. The intern is expected to be proactive, take ownership of assigned tasks, and contribute to the overall objectives of the placement area.

There are several important conditions and notes associated with this vacancy. Applications must be submitted on the official new Z83 form, and all instructions in the advertisement must be followed precisely, because applications that are late, incomplete, or submitted using the incorrect format will not be accepted. For example, faxed applications and attachments that are pictures, zipped, or in IMG/JPEG format are disallowed, and each post requires its own separate, fully completed and signed application form. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified copies of their qualifications and related documents, which must be produced on or before the day of the interview. The GPW also reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised post.

Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews and will be subject to personnel suitability checks as part of the selection process. Those who are successful must enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By submitting an application, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). If no feedback is received within three months of the closing date, applicants are advised to treat their application as unsuccessful. These conditions ensure that the recruitment process is transparent and that only suitable candidates are selected for the internship.
