The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service invites unemployed South African graduates to apply for a 24-month internal audit internship based in Pretoria. This opportunity forms part of the department’s 2026/28 Internship Programme, which is designed to equip graduates with practical workplace experience in the public service. The successful candidate will be placed within the internal audit unit, where they will support the unit’s core functions of reviewing internal controls, assessing risk management processes, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. Under supervision, the intern will be exposed to the full audit cycle, including planning, fieldwork, documentation of findings, and the preparation of audit reports. The role is ideal for a recent graduate seeking to build a career in internal auditing, particularly within the public sector.
To be considered, applicants must hold a completed National Diploma or Degree in Internal Auditing from an accredited institution of higher learning. The programme is strictly for unemployed graduates, and candidates must not have previously participated in an internship programme within the Public Service. This is a non-renewable contract position for a period of twenty-four months, and the intern will receive a monthly stipend as indicated in the advertisement. The department encourages applications from candidates whose appointment will promote representativity in terms of race, gender, and disability, in line with the Employment Equity objectives of the Public Service.
The main responsibilities of the internal audit intern will include assisting with the execution of audit assignments, gathering and analysing data, identifying potential areas of risk, and supporting senior auditors in the preparation of audit opinions and recommendations. The intern will also be expected to perform administrative duties related to the audit function, such as maintaining audit files and records, and liaising with other units within the Secretariat. Through this hands-on experience, the intern will gain a deeper understanding of how internal audit contributes to good governance and accountability in a government department.
Applications must be submitted on the new prescribed Z.83 application form, accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae that clearly indicates positions held, dates, and key performance areas. Copies of qualifications and other documents are not required at the application stage; only shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies on or before the day of the interviews. Failure to submit the required documents or to comply with the application instructions will result in disqualification. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only, and if no response is received within one month after the closing date, applicants should accept that their application was unsuccessful. The closing date and application instructions are provided in the circular and on the department’s recruitment platforms. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for graduates to contribute to the oversight of the police service while developing professional skills in internal auditing.
