The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent, commonly known as MISA, is offering two internship positions for Infrastructure Assessment and Analysis within its Infrastructure Assessment and Analysis directorate, based at the organisation’s Head Office in Centurion, Pretoria. These posts form part of the 2026 to 2028 Graduate Internship Programme, which is aimed at giving unemployed South African graduates meaningful workplace experience in the public service. Interns will be exposed to the core work of MISA, which focuses on supporting municipalities with infrastructure planning, delivery, and maintenance. The role is particularly suited to graduates who wish to build a career in public administration, office management, or municipal infrastructure support, and who are interested in contributing to the assessment and analysis of infrastructure conditions and needs across the country.
To be considered for this internship, applicants must hold a National Diploma at NQF level 6 or a Degree at NQF level 7 in Public Administration, Office Administration, or Management. This is a structured graduate opportunity, and it is important to note that participation in a public service internship is a once-off opportunity per qualification. Therefore, candidates who have previously participated in any internship programme will not be considered. Applicants must be unemployed at the time of application and must be South African citizens or permanent residents, as proof of permanent residence will be required from shortlisted candidates. The programme is designed to develop graduates by providing practical exposure to the administrative, analytical, and coordination functions within a government agency.
The main duties of the Infrastructure Assessment and Analysis interns will involve supporting the directorate in gathering, organising, and analysing data related to municipal infrastructure. This may include assisting with field assessments, compiling reports, maintaining databases, and preparing documentation for decision-making purposes. Interns will also be expected to assist with administrative functions such as minute-taking, scheduling meetings, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring that records are properly managed. The role will require attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Through this work, interns will gain a solid understanding of how infrastructure assessments are conducted and how the findings are used to guide municipal support interventions.
Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and a performance agreement within three months of appointment, and must also complete a financial interest declaration within one month of appointment and annually thereafter. All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record verification, citizenship verification, financial record checks, and qualification verification. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only, and if applicants have not been contacted within three months of the closing date, they should accept that their application was unsuccessful. Applications must be submitted using the prescribed application form, namely the fully completed and signed new Z83 form, accompanied by a comprehensive CV with contactable referees. Copies of qualifications and other documents should not be submitted at the application stage, as these will only be required from shortlisted candidates. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for graduates to gain hands-on experience in the public sector while contributing to the important work of improving municipal infrastructure in South Africa.
