The Department is seeking a skilled ICT Technician to join its Head Office team, providing advanced technical support and ensuring the smooth operation of its information and communication technology environment. Operating within a structured ICT support hierarchy, this Level 07 position requires a professional who can handle complex technical challenges while collaborating closely with both first-line and senior support staff. The role is central to maintaining the integrity, security, and availability of the department’s systems, networks, and end-user services, and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and knowledge sharing.
Applicants must hold a Grade 12 or Matric certificate alongside a National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or an equivalent qualification. At least two to three years of practical experience within an IT environment is required, specifically involving software and hardware support on Microsoft Windows platforms. The ideal candidate will possess recognised industry certifications, including A+, N+, IT Fundamentals ITF+, Server+, Security+, CCNA, and Microsoft Certified Professional qualifications. Additional certifications or diplomas in specialised areas such as routers, switches, access points, telephone systems, security systems, access control systems, and camera systems are essential. An ITIL Foundation certificate and a valid driver’s licence are also required. The role demands advanced competencies across hardware and software repairs, server administration, network configuration, data backup processes, disaster management equipment, and troubleshooting. Strong skills in collaboration, user training, inventory management, and dealing with firewalls and network devices are equally important, along with excellent problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, prioritisation, and time-management abilities, and the capacity to interpret stakeholder ICT challenges and engage effectively with service providers.
The main duties involve performing complex equipment configuration, installation, repair, and replacement, as well as carrying out server maintenance, administration, and network configurations. The technician will troubleshoot intricate hardware, software, and network issues, working with Level 1 technicians to resolve end-user support requests and sharing technical knowledge and best practices to foster team development. Escalating challenging requests to Level 3 technicians and maintaining end-user information to ensure data integrity and security are also key responsibilities, alongside managing information management systems such as databases to safeguard data reliability.
This is an equal opportunity employer, with employment equity decisions guided by departmental targets, and applications from people with disabilities are encouraged. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments, one practical and one focused on ethical conduct, which will be scored as part of the interview process. Recommended candidates will also be subject to personnel suitability checks covering criminal records, citizenship, financial standing, qualification verification, and prior employment. Applicants must ensure their applications include the prescribed form and a detailed CV, with certified copies of qualifications requested only from shortlisted candidates. Those not contacted within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful.
