This position offers an opportunity for a skilled HR professional to join the national head office of a government department as an HR Practitioner specialising in recruitment. Operating within the Directorate for HR Administration and Utilization, the role is central to ensuring that the organisation’s human capital needs are met in a structured, compliant and efficient manner. The incumbent will work as part of a team responsible for the full recruitment and selection lifecycle, from the initial policy-driven planning stages through to the placement of successful candidates. This is a hands-on role that combines administrative rigour with strategic people management, set within the broader context of public service human resource provisioning.
Candidates must hold a recognised degree or national diploma in Human Resource Management or an equivalent qualification, paired with one to two years of practical experience within a recruitment and selection environment. Computer literacy is essential, as is a valid driver’s licence, given the requirement for occasional travel. The department is looking for an individual who demonstrates strong financial management acumen, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, and the ability to plan, organise, lead and control processes. Additional personal and professional competencies include project management, presentation and report writing skills, conflict management, team leadership, and the capacity to facilitate training and development. The successful applicant must maintain confidentiality, show integrity and assertiveness, and possess a solid understanding of public service policies and legislative frameworks. Change management, coaching and mentoring abilities, networking skills, client orientation and applied strategic thinking round out the desired profile.
The duties are broad and involve the effective implementation of HR provisioning policies across the organisation. Core responsibilities include compiling and preparing recruitment and selection memoranda in accordance with established procedures, ensuring that all documentation is correctly forwarded to security standards for vetting and clearance purposes, and coordinating the logistical arrangements for the recruitment process, such as travel, accommodation, venues and catering. Strong document management is essential, with an expectation that the practitioner will maintain accurate filing and safekeeping of all recruitment and selection records. Resource management and the management of performance information also fall within the scope of the role, meaning the practitioner must be able to oversee both physical and human resources while tracking performance data to support continuous improvement.
This is a permanent appointment under the Public Service Act, and the role is graded as an OSD position, reflecting its professional status. The work is based at the national head office, and the successful candidate will be expected to engage with multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally, ensuring that every stage of the recruitment cycle is handled with professionalism and adherence to the relevant legal and policy frameworks. For those with a passion for fair, transparent and effective public sector recruitment, this position provides a meaningful platform to contribute to the broader machinery of government.
