    Requirements

    MBChB or equivalent qualification. MMed (Anaes) or equivalent qualification. Proof of registration with the HPCSA as an independent specialist. A minimum of five years' experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Specialist in Anaesthesiology. A minimum three years' experience in teaching and research at an academic institution. Demonstrable research track record including supervision of postgraduate research. Knowledge Skills Training and Competencies required at experienced specialist level. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in a team. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Excellent team player. Strong record of clinical expertise, clinical governance, research, teaching and training at under and postgraduate levels. Excellent managerial, interpersonal, leadership, administrative, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise clinical training and teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and fellowship levels. Knowledge in Anaesthesiology including provision of direct clinical care, supervision and mentoring of subordinates.

    Duties

    The post requires the incumbent to provide and/or supervise clinical care of patients at a level appropriate to the service platform; teach and examine pre-graduate and post-graduate students in appropriate aspects of Clinical Unit; initiate and participate in research activities and publications in accordance with Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University School of Medicine plans; manage and take care of patients within the domain of the tertiary hospital as well as at other cluster hospitals; manage and perform required administrative and academic duties in support of and coordinated with the Head of Department; support dissemination and implementation of policies, protocols and clinical guidelines aligned with national norms and standards. Inherent requirement of the job: The successful incumbent will be required to perform commuted overtime in the Department of Anaesthesiology.
