This position is for a Human Capital Management Production Clerk specialising in appointments, based at the Provincial Office of the North West Department of Social Development. The post falls under the Chief Directorate: Corporate Services, within the Directorate: Human Capital Management. As a production clerk, the successful candidate will play a vital operational role in the day-to-day administration of human resource processes, with a particular focus on the accurate and timeous capturing of personnel actions on the PERSAL system, which is the government’s integrated financial and human resource management system. This is an entry-level clerical post, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals who have recently completed Grade 12 and are seeking to build a career in public sector human resources.

To be considered for this role, applicants must hold a Grade 12 Certificate and have between zero and one year of relevant working experience. Although prior experience is not strictly required, practical exposure to PERSAL will be a significant advantage, as the role relies heavily on the correct use of this system. Computer literacy is an essential requirement, and candidates should be comfortable working with standard office software and electronic data capturing processes. In terms of personal competencies, the department is looking for individuals who demonstrate honesty and integrity, as the role involves handling confidential employee information. Flexibility is also important, as priorities in human resource administration can shift. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The core duties of the post revolve around the accurate implementation and capturing of various human resource transactions on PERSAL. This includes processing appointments, promotions, translations, secondments, and transfers, ensuring that all system entries are correctly recorded and aligned with official documentation. In addition, the clerk will assist with the administration of service terminations, ensuring that these are processed timeously on PERSAL so that employees’ records are updated correctly when they leave the department. Beyond these system-related tasks, the position requires attending to human resource related enquiries from employees and managers, providing clear guidance and support. The clerk will also be expected to provide human resource technical support during shortlisting and interview processes, which includes preparing documentation, verifying candidate information, and assisting with the administrative aspects of recruitment panels.

This post is advertised on an annual salary level, with enquiries directed to the specified recruitment contact within the department. As with all public service vacancies, the recruitment process will follow relevant norms and guidelines, and applicants should ensure that their applications reflect the required qualifications and competencies. The role offers a solid grounding in public service human capital management, and the hands-on PERSAL experience gained will be valuable for future career progression. Successful candidates will need to be detail-oriented, trustworthy, and able to work under supervision while taking responsibility for accurate data processing. This is a practical, supporting position that keeps the machinery of human resource administration running smoothly.
