This vacancy is for a Graphic Designer within the Communication Services unit at the Limpopo Department of Health’s Provincial Office in Polokwane. The post forms part of the department’s in-house creative capacity and is responsible for producing professional visual communication materials that support public health messaging, departmental publications, campaigns and stakeholder engagement. Working within the broader communications directorate, the designer will ensure all creative output aligns with government communication guidelines and the GCIS Visual Identity Standards, while also advising management on effective and appropriate design approaches for various audiences and platforms.

To be considered, candidates must hold a National Senior Certificate or Matric, together with an NQF Level 6 qualification in graphic design, visual communication or an equivalent field recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority, plus at least two years of relevant graphic design experience. Practical proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, or equivalent professional design software is essential and will be assessed at interview. Applicants must also be computer literate in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and virtual meeting platforms, and must possess a valid driver’s licence unless they have a disability. The role calls for a sound working knowledge of design principles and practices, visual communication, brand management, print production processes including pre-press, print finishing and large-format production, as well as digital content creation for web, social media and email platforms. Familiarity with accessibility standards in visual communication design, basic project management and production scheduling, supply chain processes for procuring print and design services, and relevant public service legislation such as the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations and the Promotion of Access to Information Act is also expected.

The main duties include designing all publication and communication materials, conducting media research, and keeping up to date with design trends and software developments. The incumbent will also advise management on effective ways of designing communication products and will render administrative support to the unit. Strong layout and typesetting skills, visual identity compliance, attention to detail, deadline management and the ability to liaise with stakeholders are central to the role. The department seeks a candidate who is professional and ethical, creative and innovative, able to work independently and in a team, flexible under pressure, cooperative, and committed to continuous learning and development.

Prospective applicants should note the general application conditions, including the requirement for a fully completed and signed new Z83 form accompanied by a comprehensive CV, and that foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA with proof of such evaluation submitted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview and to produce certified copies of their qualifications, identity document and, where applicable, proof of registration with a statutory body. Suitably qualified candidates, including people with disabilities, are encouraged to apply.
