The Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in Limpopo invites applications for its Graduate Internship Programme for the 2027/2029 intake, with three positions available in the Vhembe District. This structured workplace experience opportunity is aimed at unemployed South African graduates who have never participated in a Public Service Graduate Internship programme in any government department. The programme is specifically for graduates who hold a National Diploma or Degree in Building Science, and it is designed to provide practical exposure within the department’s infrastructure management environment. The internship will run for a fixed period of 24 months, and successful interns will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with the Department of Public Service and Administration’s directive on developmental programmes in the public service.

Interns placed in the Vhembe District will be part of the department’s infrastructure management unit, where they will have the opportunity to apply their building science knowledge to the public sector’s infrastructure delivery and maintenance functions. The programme is intended to help graduates develop the technical and professional skills needed for a career in the built environment, while contributing to the department’s mandate of managing public works, roads, and infrastructure. The practical experience gained will include exposure to the administrative, technical, and project-related processes involved in infrastructure management, giving interns a solid foundation for future employment.

Applicants must be unemployed South African youth who meet the educational requirement of a National Diploma or Degree in Building Science. They must also have no prior participation in any Public Service Graduate Internship programme. The application process requires a fully completed Z83 form and a comprehensive CV. Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their identity document, Grade 12 certificate, and relevant qualifications. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to security clearance, verification of qualifications, and two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to determine technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment. The recommended candidate will also undergo a Personnel Suitability Check.

The department is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, with employment decisions informed by its Employment Equity Plan. Women and people living with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The department reserves the right not to make any appointment, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates. Applicants who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. The department will not cover any costs for candidates attending interviews, including transport, accommodation, or meals. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for building science graduates to gain meaningful workplace experience in the public service while contributing to infrastructure development in Limpopo.
