The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure is offering a Graduate Internship Programme for the 2027/2029 intake, with three positions based in the Capricorn District. This is a structured 24-month workplace experience opportunity aimed at unemployed South African graduates who have never participated in a Public Service Graduate Internship programme. Successful candidates will be appointed from 01 April 2027 to 31 March 2029 and will receive a monthly stipend in line with the Department of Public Service and Administration’s directive on developmental programmes. The programme is designed to give graduates practical exposure within the infrastructure management environment, contributing to the department’s mandate of planning, delivering, maintaining and managing public infrastructure and roads across the province.
To be considered, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Science or Construction Management. These fields reflect the core technical areas of the department’s infrastructure portfolio. Candidates must be unemployed youth and must not have previously benefited from any government department’s graduate internship programme. A valid driver’s licence is also required, as mobility is likely to be necessary for site visits and project-related activities. Applicants with foreign qualifications must ensure that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying.
Interns will be placed within the infrastructure management unit in the Capricorn District, where they will be expected to support the department’s engineering and construction functions. Duties will typically include assisting with the planning and design of infrastructure projects, participating in site inspections and condition assessments, supporting project management and contract administration, helping to monitor construction quality and progress, and contributing to maintenance planning and reporting. The internship is intended to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional practice, so interns will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and technical specialists while gaining hands-on experience in the public sector.
The department is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, and women and people living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to security clearance, qualification verification, and two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise to determine technical and generic suitability, and one integrity assessment. The recommended candidate will also undergo a personnel suitability check. The department reserves the right not to fill any of the advertised posts. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates, and applicants who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their applications unsuccessful. Candidates invited for interviews will need to make their own travel, accommodation and meal arrangements, as the department will not cover these costs. Applications must be submitted through the departmental e-recruitment system using the prescribed Z83 form and a comprehensive CV, with certified documents required only at the interview stage for shortlisted candidates.
