The Limpopo Department of Social Development is offering a graduate internship programme for the 2027/2029 intake within its Infrastructure Management Unit. Three funded internship posts are available, based in the Waterberg District. This structured work experience opportunity is aimed at recent graduates who wish to develop practical skills in the management and maintenance of departmental infrastructure. Interns will be placed within the Infrastructure Management Unit, where they will work under supervision and gain exposure to the planning, coordination and delivery of infrastructure services that support the department’s social development mandate. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and the workplace, providing interns with meaningful assignments and mentorship throughout the internship period.
To be considered, applicants must hold a National Diploma or a Degree in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Architectural Studies. These qualifications are essential, as the internship focuses on infrastructure-related disciplines. No prior work experience is specified, making this an ideal entry-level opportunity for graduates who have recently completed their studies. Candidates must be motivated, willing to learn, and able to work as part of a team. The department values diversity and is committed to employment equity; designated groups, including designated race groups, women, and people with disabilities, are particularly encouraged to apply.
The main duties of the interns will be aligned to the Infrastructure Management Unit’s responsibilities. This includes assisting with the assessment and monitoring of departmental buildings and facilities, supporting the preparation of infrastructure plans and reports, and helping to coordinate maintenance and renovation projects. Interns may also be involved in quantity surveying tasks such as measuring and costing works, or in architectural drafting and design support, depending on their qualification. They will be expected to perform administrative duties, attend site visits, and collaborate with other team members and external contractors. The exact duties will be determined by the unit’s needs and the intern’s area of study, but the overall aim is to provide a comprehensive learning experience in public sector infrastructure management.
This is a re-advertised post, and applicants who previously applied are encouraged to re-apply if they remain interested. The department is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Applications must be submitted using the new Z83 application form, which is available from government departments or online, along with a detailed curriculum vitae. When completing the Z83, all fields in Parts A, C and D must be completed, and for Parts E, F and G applicants may refer to their CV as long as the required information is contained there. Questions relating to conditions that prevent re-appointment must be answered. Certified copies of qualifications, identity documents and driver’s licences are not required at the initial application stage; however, shortlisted candidates will be required to submit these to human resources on or before the day of the interview. Applicants with foreign qualifications must ensure that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and provide proof of such evaluation.
All shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise and an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment, in line with the Directive on Human Resource Management and Development for Public Service Professionalization. The successful candidate will also be subjected to security clearance (vetting) and personnel suitability checks, which include criminal record, citizenship, credit record, qualification verification and employment verification. By applying, applicants consent to the collection, processing and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Enquiries may be directed to the Waterberg District office using the contact details provided in the advertisement. The internship offers a monthly stipend, and the closing date is specified in the vacancy announcement.
