This graduate internship opportunity is offered by the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure within its Properties and Facilities Unit, based in the Mopani District. The programme is designed for unemployed South African youth who have completed their tertiary studies and are seeking meaningful workplace experience in the built environment and facilities management sectors. Successful candidates will be placed on a structured 24-month developmental contract, commencing in April 2027 and concluding at the end of March 2029. The internship forms part of the department’s broader effort to equip graduates with practical skills while contributing to the effective management and maintenance of government properties and facilities across the province.

The programme is specifically aimed at graduates holding a National Diploma or Degree in Real Estate, Property Science, or Horticulture. These fields are central to the work of the Properties and Facilities Unit, which is responsible for the upkeep, planning, and management of public infrastructure and green spaces. Interns will therefore be exposed to a range of activities relating to property administration, facilities coordination, and horticultural services. This may include assisting with property inspections, maintaining records of state-owned buildings, supporting lease management processes, and helping to ensure that facilities are safe, functional, and well-presented. For those with a horticulture background, duties may involve the planning and maintenance of gardens, landscapes, and grounds surrounding government buildings, as well as supporting environmental and greening initiatives within the district.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have never participated in any Public Service Graduate Internship programme in any government department. The department is looking for motivated individuals who are ready to commit to the full duration of the programme. Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo security clearance, verification of qualifications, and a personnel suitability check. In addition, all shortlisted candidates will be expected to complete two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise testing technical and generic competencies relevant to the post, and another assessing ethical conduct and integrity. These measures are in place to ensure that only suitable and trustworthy candidates are recommended for appointment.

The department is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, and it actively encourages women and people living with disabilities to apply. Employment decisions will be guided by the department’s Employment Equity Plan. Interns will receive a monthly stipend in line with the Department of Public Service and Administration’s directive on developmental programmes. It is important to note that the department will not cover any costs related to transport, accommodation, or meals for candidates attending interviews. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only, and applicants who do not receive feedback within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. Those who wish to challenge any administrative decision may do so in terms of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for graduates to gain hands-on experience in a government environment while contributing to the effective delivery of public infrastructure services in Limpopo.
