The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure is offering a Graduate Internship Programme for the 2027/2029 intake, with five positions based at Head Office. This structured workplace experience opportunity is aimed at unemployed South African graduates who have never participated in any Public Service graduate internship programme. Interns will be appointed for a fixed period of 24 months and will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with the Department of Public Service and Administration’s directive on developmental programmes. The programme is part of the department’s broader commitment to skills development, transformation, and the cultivation of a capable public service workforce.
The internship is divided into two specialist streams. Three posts are located within the Properties and Facilities Unit, while two posts are based in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Unit. For the Properties and Facilities posts, applicants must hold a National Diploma or Degree in Real Estate, or a B.Eng. in Property Science. For the GIS posts, a National Diploma or Degree in Geographic Information Systems is required. These qualifications should provide the theoretical grounding necessary for graduates to contribute meaningfully to the department’s work in managing public property portfolios and in capturing, analysing, and mapping spatial data. The department is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, and women and people living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Employment decisions will be informed by the department’s Employment Equity Plan.
Interns placed in the Properties and Facilities Unit will gain practical experience in the management, maintenance, and administration of government properties and facilities. They will support the unit’s mandate to ensure that public buildings and infrastructure are effectively utilised, well maintained, and aligned with departmental standards. Those placed in the GIS Unit will assist with the capture, processing, analysis, and visualisation of geographic information, supporting planning and decision-making across departmental projects. The internship is designed to provide meaningful workplace exposure, allowing graduates to develop technical, professional, and interpersonal competencies under the guidance of experienced staff. Interns will be expected to participate in the day-to-day operations of their respective units, complete assigned tasks, and contribute to the overall objectives of the department.
Applicants must be unemployed South African youth who have not previously participated in a Public Service graduate internship in any government department. Applications must be submitted using the prescribed Z83 application form, accompanied by a comprehensive CV. Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their identity document, qualifications, and other relevant documents before the interview. Applicants with foreign qualifications are responsible for ensuring that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to security clearance, verification of qualifications, and two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise to determine suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements, and one integrity-based assessment. The recommended candidate will also undergo a Personnel Suitability Check. The department reserves the right not to make any appointment, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. Candidates who do not receive feedback within three months after the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. The department will not cover any costs related to transport, accommodation, or meals for candidates attending interviews.
