Eskom is offering a Graduate in Training opportunity in Finance at the Koeberg Power Station, located in the Western Cape. This structured learning programme sits within the Human Resources department and is graded at a task level suitable for a recent graduate. The successful candidate will be placed in a formal institutionalised training environment combined with on-the-job experience, designed to develop a well-rounded finance professional within South Africa’s energy sector. As a trainee, you will be expected to absorb Eskom’s financial policies, procedures and systems while contributing to the finance team’s daily operations under supervision. The programme provides exposure to the workings of a large, complex power utility, specifically at South Africa’s only nuclear power station, and helps build the practical competencies needed for a long-term career in finance.
To be considered for this role, you must have a fully completed B Com or BA degree with Finance or Accounting as your area of specialisation. This is a strict requirement, as the programme is intended for graduates who have already finished their tertiary studies. You must also be a South African citizen. No prior work experience is specified, which confirms that this is an entry-level graduate opportunity. Applicants will go through a recruitment process, and those who are successful will be placed within Eskom Operations across the divisions, with this particular post based at Koeberg. The role demands a range of personal and professional attributes. You should be a team player with leadership potential, and you must demonstrate integrity, honesty and professionalism at all times. Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation and liaising skills are essential, as you will need to interact with colleagues and stakeholders. You should also be polite, prompt, energetic, a self-starter and assertive in carrying out your duties. Knowledge of Eskom’s policies and procedures would be an advantage, though as a graduate trainee you will be expected to learn these during the programme.
The key responsibilities revolve around learning and development. You will participate in both formal training sessions and practical workplace assignments, rotating through finance-related tasks to gain a broad understanding of financial management within Eskom. You will be expected to apply your academic knowledge to real-world scenarios, assist with financial data, reporting and reconciliations, and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills grow. The programme is designed to produce capable finance professionals who can contribute to Eskom’s long-term objectives.
Eskom is committed to equality, employment equity and diversity. In line with its employment equity plan and goals, preference may be given to candidates from under-represented designated groups, and candidates with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Eskom reserves the right not to make an appointment to the post as advertised. The workplace is smoke-free for employees and visitors. If you have not been contacted within 28 days after the closing date, you should accept that your application was unsuccessful. To apply, you must submit your application online, quoting the reference number and the training programme name. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent finance graduate to launch their career with a major South African employer.
