The Government Printing Works (GPW) invites qualifying graduates to apply for four intern posts within its Financial Services unit, based in Pretoria. This is not a permanent employment vacancy but a structured 24-month Graduate Programme internship aimed at providing meaningful workplace exposure and hands-on experience to graduates who are starting their professional careers. Successful candidates will be placed within the financial services environment, where they will work under the supervision of experienced professionals while being developed in line with their academic background. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between formal study and the practical demands of the public service workplace.

Applicants must hold a National Diploma or a Degree in Financial Accounting. In addition to the academic requirement, candidates must be unemployed South African citizens and must not have previously participated in any internship programme. It is crucial that applicants disclose any prior internship participation, as failure to do so will result in immediate termination of the internship contract on grounds of dishonesty or undue enrichment. This underlines the importance of honesty and transparency in the application process, as the GPW reserves the right to verify the information provided.

The core responsibilities of the interns will include active participation in workplace activities, projects, and capacity-building initiatives relevant to their field of study. Interns will receive structured training and work exposure aligned with the placement area, allowing them to develop practical financial accounting skills, understand government financial processes, and contribute to the operational objectives of the unit. The internship is intended to prepare graduates for future employment by strengthening their technical competencies, professional conduct, and understanding of public sector financial management.

Applications must be submitted on the new Z83 form, which is obtainable from any Public Service Department or online from the government’s official documents portal. Each post advertised must be accompanied by its own fully completed, initiated, and signed application form, and the correct job title and reference number must be indicated in the subject line of the email. Applications using the old Z83 form, submitted via fax, containing zipped, image, or JPEG attachments, or received after the closing date will not be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications and other relevant documents on or before the interview date, as communicated by Human Resources. Candidates with foreign qualifications must ensure that their qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The GPW reserves the right to fill or not fill the advertised positions, and personnel suitability checks may be administered as part of the selection process. Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews at a date and time determined by the GPW, and successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the collection, processing, and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and this information will only be used for the recruitment process. If applicants do not receive a response within three months of the closing date, they should consider their application unsuccessful.
