This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the enforcement and oversight of South Africa’s labour legislation as an Employer Audit Service Officer within the Department of Employment and Labour. Based at the Provincial Office in Mpumalanga, the role sits within the broader audit and compliance framework of the department, focusing specifically on the Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA) and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that employers comply with these critical programmes, which protect workers against the financial impact of unemployment, illness, and workplace injury. This is a technical and analytical role that requires a solid understanding of labour law, auditing principles, and public service regulations.
To be considered for this post, applicants must hold a three-year relevant tertiary qualification in Labour Relations Management, BCOM Law, LLB, or Internal Audit. In addition, at least one year of functional experience in auditing is required. The role demands a broad working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, Batho Pele principles, the Public Service Act and Regulations, the OHS Act and Regulations, COIDA, UIA, PFMA, BCEA, SDLA, LRA, the UI Contribution Act, the Skills Development Act, and the Employment Equity Act. Candidates should also possess a range of professional skills, including facilitation, planning and organising, computer literacy, interpersonal abilities, problem solving, interviewing techniques, strong written and verbal communication, innovation, analytical thinking, research capability, and project management.
The core duties of the Employer Audit Service Officer involve monitoring the implementation of UIA and COIDA programmes across employer entities. This includes analysing the systems that provide expert advice on sector-specific UIA and COIDA matters, ensuring that the department’s interventions are aligned with legislative requirements. The officer will also coordinate the processes that monitor and evaluate the impact of these programmes, identifying gaps and recommending improvements. Another key responsibility is providing support in the implementation of advocacy campaigns on UI and COIDA, both on a regular basis and whenever amendments to the relevant legislation are introduced. This means the officer must stay current with legal changes and help communicate these updates to employers and stakeholders.
This vacancy is subject to the department’s employment equity objectives. Priority will be given to African Male, Indian Male, Indian Female, White Male, and People with Disability candidates, in line with the department’s affirmative action measures. The post is advertised through the Public Service Vacancy Circular, and interested applicants should take note of the specific application instructions and contact details provided in the full advertisement. The role offers a chance to work in a dynamic regulatory environment, contributing to fair labour practices and the protection of workers’ rights. It is ideal for an audit professional with a strong legal background and a passion for public service delivery.
