The Government Printing Works (GPW) in Pretoria is inviting qualifying graduates to apply for a 24-month Graduate Programme internship in Employee Benefits and Administration. This structured placement is aimed at providing meaningful workplace experience to unemployed South African graduates who wish to build a career in human resources and public administration. As an intern in this field, you will be based within the department’s human resources environment, where you will receive hands-on exposure to the administration of employee benefits and related processes. The programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and the practical demands of the workplace, offering guided mentorship and supervised participation in everyday organisational activities.

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must hold a Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management or Public Administration. The role is ideal for recent graduates who have not yet had the chance to participate in an internship programme, as one of the core conditions is that applicants must be unemployed and must not have previously benefitted from an internship. Honesty in this regard is critical: failure to disclose prior participation will lead to immediate termination of the internship contract on the grounds of dishonesty and undue enrichment. Applicants must also be South African citizens.

During the internship, successful candidates will receive structured work exposure and training directly relevant to their field of study and the placement area. Interns are expected to actively engage in workplace activities, contribute to projects, and take part in capacity-building initiatives, all under the supervision of experienced professionals. This will involve practical involvement in benefits administration tasks, supporting the human resources team, and learning how public service HR processes are executed within a large state-owned entity like the Government Printing Works. The programme is geared towards developing well-rounded graduates who can later compete for permanent employment in the public sector.

Applicants should note that a fully completed and signed new Z83 application form must be submitted, together with the correct job title and reference number in the subject line of the email. Only shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide certified copies of qualifications and other relevant documents before the interview. Applicants with foreign qualifications must have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The selection process includes personnel suitability checks, and successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment contract and performance agreement. By applying, candidates consent to the processing of their personal information in line with POPIA. The GPW reserves the right not to fill the post, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates; if no response is received within three months of the closing date, applicants should consider their application unsuccessful.
