The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development is seeking a DRS System Support Officer to join its Registration and Information Services directorate in Pretoria, Gauteng. This role is central to maintaining the stability, security and performance of the Deeds Registration System (DRS) and the broader ICT environment that supports the department’s registration functions. As a system support officer, you will act as a key technical resource, ensuring that end-users, business applications, network infrastructure and the server room operate smoothly and securely. The position is graded at level 08 and offers an opportunity to contribute to the digital backbone of a vital public service.

To be considered, applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate and a National Diploma in Information Technology or a Degree in Computer Science, supplemented by A+, N+, MCSE, Linux+ or an equivalent qualification. At least two years of relevant experience is required, with demonstrated hands-on expertise in hardware and software support, server administration, IT technical support, and server and network management. A solid understanding of the technical aspects of ICT goods and services, as well as information technology acts and policies, is essential. Candidates should also possess knowledge of internal control and risk management, and bring strong planning, organising, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills to the team.

The duties are broad and practical. You will provide desktop support to end users, install, update and configure end-user devices, and support business applications. A significant part of the role involves investigating, resolving, escalating and monitoring logged calls to ensure issues are addressed promptly. On the network side, you will assist end-users with LAN connectivity, monitor the availability and performance of the network, assess the need for new network points, and oversee the installation process. Server room support is another core responsibility: you will monitor the server room environment, take remedial action when needed, ensure compliance with maintenance contract deliverables, control access to the server room and maintain an access register, and assist with installing customer-replaceable server parts.

Information system security is also a key focus. You will check that users are properly registered on the domain, confirm that antivirus software is installed, updated and running, and remove any unauthorised applications or software. Maintaining an accurate IT asset register or database is required, as is the production of ICT reports, including incident and system availability reports. You will also provide inputs to SLA non-compliance reports and support the procurement and disposal of IT assets. This is a hands-on role that demands both technical competence and careful record-keeping.

The department has set employment equity targets for this vacancy, specifically encouraging Coloured, Indian and White males, Indian females, and persons with disabilities to apply. This reflects the department’s commitment to a representative workforce. If you have the required qualifications and a passion for supporting critical ICT systems, this position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the efficient functioning of land registration services in South Africa. Ensure your application is submitted before the closing date, as late submissions will not be considered.
