This position is for a Driver based at the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Office of the Free State Department of Education, operating within the broader public service framework and subject to the department's transport and financial regulations. The role is central to supporting the district office's daily operations by ensuring the safe and efficient movement of passengers, mail, and official documents. As a driver in this government setting, the incumbent must adhere strictly to the prescripts of the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury regulations regarding the use and care of state vehicles, reflecting the high level of accountability expected in the public service.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 10 certificate or an equivalent qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority, along with a valid motor vehicle licence and a valid Public Driving Permit. A minimum of seven months of driving experience is required. Beyond the formal qualifications, the role demands a solid understanding of public service ethics and departmental transport protocols, as well as the ability to comply with a driver's responsibilities as outlined by Treasury and the PFMA. The department is looking for individuals with good interpersonal relations, loyalty, commitment, sound time management, and a strong sense of accountability.

The core duties involve driving light and medium motor vehicles to transport passengers and to deliver items such as mail and documents. The driver is also responsible for performing routine maintenance on the allocated vehicle and reporting any defects timeously to ensure safety and compliance. In addition, the role requires the completion of all prescribed records and log books pertaining to the vehicle and the goods handled, ensuring accurate documentation for audit purposes. The position also includes rendering clerical support and messenger services within the relevant office, making versatility and reliability important traits.

This is an OSD-graded post within the department, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in selection interviews at a date, time, and place determined by the Free State Department of Education. The department is committed to promoting representativity, with preference given to applicants from designated groups, particularly people with disabilities, women, and youth. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to personnel suitability checks, including criminal record verification, citizenship checks, financial record verification, and qualification verification, and may be required to consent to access to their social media accounts. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA, and non-RSA residents will need to submit proof of permanent residency if shortlisted. Applicants who accepted voluntary severance packages are not eligible to apply. The department reserves the right not to fill the position, and applicants who do not receive notification within four months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. New appointments in the public service must join the Government Employee Medical Scheme to qualify for a medical subsidy.
