The Department of Health in Limpopo is advertising seven Driver/Messenger posts, based at Helen Franz Hospital, Mokopane Hospital, St Ritas Hospital, Grace Mugodeni Community Health Centre, Dr Machupe Mphahlele, Sekororo Hospital and George Masebe Hospital. This entry-level position, graded at Level 04, is vital to the smooth running of the department’s support services. The role involves providing safe and punctual driving services, transporting officials and patients to various destinations, and ensuring that correspondence and goods are collected, delivered and securely packed. Working within a broader logistics and administration team, the incumbents will assist in processing vehicle permits and maintaining the departmental fleet to a high standard, directly supporting healthcare delivery across the province.

Applicants must hold a National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification at NQF level 4, recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority, and have between seven and twelve months of driving experience. Advanced driving skills will be an added advantage. A valid C1 driver’s licence and a Professional Driving Permit are essential, and shortlisted candidates will be subjected to a driving test as part of the selection process. The department is seeking individuals with sound communication skills, teamwork, job-focused learning, basic literacy and integrity. A working knowledge of Batho Pele principles is expected, as is an excellent understanding of local routes and a thorough respect for South African driving law. Personal attributes such as professionalism, attention to detail, accountability, reliability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are all important, along with a proactive, results-oriented approach and a willingness to adapt to change.

The duties are varied and demand responsibility. Drivers/messengers must regularly check and follow up on driver plans, transport staff and patients safely, and deliver official documents to government authorities and other organisations. They are also required to keep vehicles in an excellent condition, conducting daily checks of oil, water, brake fluid, battery and tyres, cleaning the vehicles inside and out, and ensuring there is always adequate fuel. They must schedule vehicle servicing with the Logistics Officer, report and arrange minor repairs where necessary, and track timeous car licence renewals so that every vehicle remains legally compliant. Maintaining the sound running of assigned vehicles is a core part of the role.

Candidates should note that this is a full-time government position with an online application process. A fully completed and signed Z83 form must be submitted together with a comprehensive CV, and applicants must follow the submission requirements carefully to avoid disqualification. Foreign qualifications need to be evaluated by SAQA, and shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview, bring certified copies of qualifications and identification, and undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise and an integrity or ethical conduct assessment. These assessments are scored as part of the interview process. Any applicant who does not meet the conditions and requirements of the post is advised not to apply. This is an excellent opportunity for disciplined, service-oriented individuals who are committed to supporting public health operations and who thrive in a role that combines driving, logistics and responsible vehicle management.
