This position forms part of the Compensation Fund, a entity within the Department of Employment and Labour, based in Pretoria. The Fund is responsible for administering compensation for workplace injuries and diseases, and this role supports those operations by providing essential transport and administrative assistance. As a Driver/Messenger, you will be one of four incumbents tasked with ensuring the smooth movement of documents, parcels, and personnel across the Fund’s various offices and external destinations. The role is central to maintaining service delivery standards, as it enables other officials to perform their duties efficiently while also supporting the office environment with general administrative tasks.
To be considered for this post, applicants must hold at least a Grade 10 certificate, a valid Code 8 driver’s licence, and a Professional Driving Permit (PDP). A thorough knowledge of the city of Pretoria and its surrounding routes is essential, as the role requires navigating traffic and delivering items timeously. Beyond the basic qualifications, the position demands a sound understanding of policy and compliance frameworks, risk and control measures, and the regulations, policies, and procedures governing the Public Service, the Department of Employment and Labour, and the Compensation Fund specifically. Familiarity with the Batho Pele principles of customer service is also required. In addition, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of legislation, including the Public Service Regulations, the Public Finance Management Act, the Public Service Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Minimum Information Security Standards, the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, the National Road Traffic Act, the National Treasury Regulations, the Promotion of Access to Information Act, the Promotion of Administration of Justice Act, the Constitution Act 108 of 1996, the Protection of Personal Information Act, and the Protection of State Information Act. The role further calls for skills in fleet management, communication, quality assurance, risk management, service delivery innovation, and stakeholder development and relations.
The main duties of the Driver/Messenger include rendering driver and messenger services for the Fund, which involves transporting documents, parcels, and other materials between offices, government departments, and external stakeholders. You will also provide shuttle services for the Fund, moving officials or visitors as required, and ensuring that all trips are conducted safely and in accordance with road traffic legislation. Additionally, you will render office administration support services in the office, which may include assisting with filing, photocopying, record keeping, and other clerical tasks as directed. The role requires a high level of responsibility, as you will be entrusted with confidential documents and must adhere to the relevant security and information protection protocols.
This is a government position with a structured salary package as advertised in the public service circular. The Compensation Fund is committed to employment equity, and for these posts, priority will be given to persons with disabilities, as well as Indian and White candidates, in line with the approved equity targets. The successful candidates will be based in Pretoria and must be prepared to work within the regulatory framework of the public service. If you meet the qualifications and are committed to providing reliable, professional driving and administrative support, this role offers an opportunity to contribute to the effective functioning of a key government entity.
