Driver (Light Duty Vehicle) (Permanent position)

This permanent Driver (Light Duty Vehicle) post is based at the Khayelitsha/Eastern Sub-structure Office of the Department of Health and Wellness in the Western Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing an efficient and effective transport service for Primary Health Care and Health Programs within the sub-structure. The role is situated within the broader Ecosystem Service platform, meaning that the post is linked to an institution or facility that forms part of a networked health service delivery system. As a result, the incumbent may be required to support service delivery across different institutions within the Ecosystem as operational needs arise, in order to sustain health services. In line with the department’s operational requirements, the driver will also be expected to assist with the offloading and delivery of goods as part of the role’s core responsibilities.

Applicants must have basic literacy and numeracy skills, along with good written and verbal communication. The role demands a high level of independence, accountability, and responsibility, as well as sound interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Transport Regulations and Circular no 4 of 2000 is required, together with an understanding of routine vehicle maintenance, inspection of vehicles for defects, and safe driving practices. The inherent requirements of the job include a valid code B/EB driver’s licence, a valid Public Driving Permit, and a willingness to work overtime. Appropriate driving experience is also required.
