The District Director is responsible for leading and directing agricultural extension and advisory services across the district, ensuring that farmers and rural communities receive effective support. The position operates within the broader framework of provincial agricultural development policies and national strategic plans, and the incumbent is expected to align district activities with the KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Development Policy, the Agriculture and Agro-Processing Master Plan, and the Provincial Growth and Development Plan. The role also carries responsibility for supporting animal health institutions operating within the district, including veterinary services, and for ensuring that all agricultural interventions and engineering support are delivered efficiently.

The core duties include managing the provision of agricultural extension and advisory services, overseeing district agricultural projects, coordinating agricultural-specific interventions and engineering support, and contributing to policy development and implementation. The District Director is also responsible for providing administrative support to the district, including support to animal health institutions, and for managing the resources of the directorate.
