Job Purpose: To provide strategic leadership and operational oversight in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of destination events that promote tourism, enhance the City of Tshwane brand, support local economic development and strengthen partnerships with public and private stakeholders

Requirements
An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (national diploma or degree) in Events Management, Tourism Management, Communication Science, Public Administration or any other study field related to the position Project management certification is an added advantage At least nine years’ working experience in a corporate events management environment, of which four years should be at managerial level A valid Code B driving licence Computer literacy Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost Personal attributes Strategic thinking skills with strong innovation capability; high emotional and/or competencies intelligence; ability to be professional, ethical and accountable; ability to be detail-oriented with strong organisational capability; ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects
Duties
Ensure that all municipal events are delivered efficiently, safely and in compliance with relevant legislation and municipal by-laws Develop and implement destination events in the city Align event plans with the Integrated Development Plan and tourism objectives Provide leadership in developing a coordinated annual event calendar Oversee planning, budgeting, execution, monitoring and evaluation of flagship municipal events (festivals, cultural events, sport events, conferences, etc) Ensure compliance with event safety standards, risk management protocols and all relevant legislation Coordinate logistics, service providers, permits and operational plans Implement tourism promotion initiatives linked to municipal events Enhance City of Tshwane brand visibility through event-related marketing Support stakeholder and community engagement to grow event attendance Monitor the financial performance, return on investment and cost efficiency of events Build partnerships with provincial and national tourism bodies, sponsors, private sector partners and community organisations Facilitate collaboration to maximise event impact and economic benefits Prepare reports for management, committees and Council Maintain accurate event records, performance indicators and risk registers Ensure full compliance with municipal governance frameworks and policies Execute generic management functions Oversee financial functions, such as preparing and controlling budgets, verifying project expenditure, monitoring financial performance and compliance with the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003 (Act 56 of 2003), supply chain management procedures and cost efficiency, and maintaining the section’s asset register
