This position is a Director-level role within the Office of the Director-General at the National Treasury, specifically focused on Internal Operations Executive Support for Programme 1 matters. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing stakeholder engagement and relations management across the institution, while also promoting an ethical administrative and technical support function within the Director-General’s office. Based in Pretoria, the role is central to ensuring that the Office of the Director-General operates smoothly, with effective coordination of executive meetings, strategic deliverables, and stakeholder correspondence.
Applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate and a minimum Bachelor’s degree at NQF level 7 in Public Administration, Management, or Project Management. At least five years of experience at a middle or senior managerial level, gained in the management and facilitation of programmes, is required. In-depth knowledge of the Public Service Policy Framework, the operational environment of an executive office, and policy analysis and interpretation are essential. In addition, successful completion of the Nyukela Public Service Senior Management Leadership Programme, as endorsed by the National School of Government, is a prerequisite before any appointment can be finalised.
The duties are broad and include strategic support to the Executive Committee, such as coordinating meeting effectiveness, providing advice on submissions relating to Programme 1 departmental matters, and fast-tracking explanatory submissions for approval. The Director will monitor progress on activities directed by the Director-General, coordinate outstanding strategic deliverables, and manage stakeholder engagement on queries and concerns. Administrative and office support responsibilities include drafting memoranda and submissions, performing secretariat duties for senior management forums, overseeing document management and electronic filing systems, and coordinating logistics for corporate functions and conferences. The role also involves liaising with all spheres of government, public entities, and private sector organisations on Programme 1 matters.
Financial management is another key area, requiring compliance with the Public Finance Management Act and the Public Service Act, managing the budget, and recommending fund movements between items. The Director will also initiate research, analyse policies and prescripts, and ensure the smooth operation of the department through due processes. This is a demanding position that requires a candidate who can work under pressure, exercise oversight, and maintain high standards of quality control.
Notably, all shortlisted candidates, including for SMS posts, must undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. Shortlisted SMS candidates may also undergo psychometric assessments. The National Treasury does not support the use of artificial intelligence in recruitment and selection processes, and applications using AI without acknowledgement may be disqualified. All qualifications, criminal records, and citizenship checks will be conducted. The post is graded as a Director position with an all-inclusive salary package, and applications are only accepted through the e-recruitment system, with a fixed closing date that is displayed alongside this summary.
