The Department of Health in Limpopo is seeking a Director for Infrastructure Maintenance and Technical Support, based at the provincial office in Polokwane. This senior executive role, reporting directly to the Chief Director for Infrastructure Development and Technical Support Services, is responsible for ensuring that all health facilities and related infrastructure across the province are maintained to a standard that supports safe, effective and cost-efficient healthcare delivery. The incumbent will provide strategic direction, technical leadership and operational oversight for maintenance programmes, professional engineering services and associated technical support across the full portfolio of departmental health infrastructure.

Candidates must possess a National Senior Certificate or equivalent, together with a relevant degree in civil, structural, mechanical or electrical engineering. A minimum of six years of post-qualification experience is required, including at least five years at a middle or senior managerial level focused on infrastructure maintenance. Additional training in project management, health facilities management or maintenance management, especially gained within health engineering or a similar complex environment, will be regarded as a strong advantage. Applicants should be computer literate in MS Office, hold a valid driver's licence, and be prepared to travel extensively across the province and work extended hours when necessary.

The role demands a comprehensive understanding of the provincial Infrastructure Delivery Management System, applicable legislation, policies and frameworks, as well as national and international engineering standards, municipal waste management requirements and occupational health and safety obligations. The successful candidate must be able to interpret technical specifications for procurement, assess and mitigate infrastructure risks, manage diverse project portfolios simultaneously and produce high-quality reports, submissions and presentations. Strong leadership skills are essential, including the ability to motivate staff, build competencies and foster a culture of excellence, while meeting tight deadlines for documentation, site meeting minutes and project reporting.

Key duties include planning, implementing and managing maintenance and technical support services for all health facilities; providing professional engineering support to the chief directorate and facility management teams; overseeing maintenance and technical services delivery; and managing the acquisition and deployment of maintenance resources. The Director will also collaborate with directors, middle managers, and clinical and administrative staff across provincial, district and facility structures, manage healthcare infrastructure risk and quality improvement initiatives, and enforce compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including equipment safety and effective municipal waste management. Ultimately, the post holder sets the visionary direction of the directorate and manages its human, physical and financial resources to support service delivery priorities. This is an all-inclusive Level 13 position, and appointments are subject to the departmental conditions, including the requirement for a valid driver's licence unless a disability prevents this. Enquiries may be directed to the departmental contact persons listed in the circular during office hours.
