This senior management position, based in Pretoria, calls for a Director of ICT Security, Governance, Risk and Compliance Strategy within the Government Printing Works (GPW). The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping and overseeing the department's information and communication technology environment, ensuring that security, governance, risk management and compliance are embedded across all ICT operations. As a Level 13 post within the Senior Management Service, the role carries significant strategic and managerial weight.
Applicants must have a Grade 12 certificate and an NQF 7 degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business Information. A valid driver's licence is required, along with at least five years of experience at middle or senior management level, specifically at Deputy Director level or equivalent, within an ICT environment. While not mandatory, a range of certifications will strengthen an application, including CCNA, CompTIA Server+, COBIT 5, ITIL, information security certifications, King III or IV, project management, CISSP, CISP, CISA, CRISC, CGEIT and TOGAF.
The position demands familiarity with government transversal systems such as BAS, LOGIS and PERSAL, as well as sound knowledge of the GITO Requirements and Frameworks, the State Information Technology Agency Act, the Minimum Information Security Standards, and the ISO 17799 information security framework. An understanding of corporate governance principles, human resources legislation and the broader public service regulatory framework is also essential. Because the work involves both internal management and external coordination, the incumbent must be prepared to work extended hours and travel as required.
The Director will be responsible for a broad portfolio. This includes managing the design and implementation of infrastructure architecture, evaluating technology trends and assessing their impact on the business, and ensuring that security measures such as firewalls, access controls and intrusion monitoring are in place. The role also involves conducting periodic IT audits to identify security violations and inefficiencies, upgrading systems, and safeguarding information assets by anticipating future security requirements.
Beyond security, the post leads the implementation of corporate governance of ICT, building ICT governance controls, managing risk and compliance, and aligning ICT strategy with the broader business strategy. The Director must ensure business continuity planning is integrated into directorate objectives and operations. Oversight of IT service support and operations includes incident management, request fulfilment, performance reporting, acquisition of end-user devices, and standardisation of computer user accounts.
As head of a directorate, the incumbent develops and implements the operational plan, allocates resources, identifies policy shortfalls, conducts financial planning and manages the budget, while ensuring compliance with policy and statutory directives. Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on directorate performance is a core part of the job.
Candidates should note that this is a Senior Management Service post, which requires successful completion of the SMS Pre-Entry Programme, also known as Nyukela, endorsed by the National School of Government. Proof of registration and completion must be available before appointment, at the candidate's own cost. The recruitment process has strict application requirements, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Those shortlisted must present certified copies of qualifications and related documents on or before the interview date.
