This position is based at the National Head Office within the Directorate: Logistics and reports into the unit responsible for the LOGIS (Logistical Information System) and broader supply chain management support. The Deputy Director: Logistical Support is a senior management role that ensures the integrity, security and effective operation of the department's logistical information systems, while also driving the development of policy, training material and performance management. The role operates within the framework of the Public Service Act and requires a thorough understanding of legislative and regulatory prescripts, including the Public Finance Management Act, the Supply Chain Management Guide for Accounting Officers, the LOGIS manual, the DCS Strategic Plan, Public Service Regulations and HRM policies. A sound grasp of the Skills Development Act is also essential, as the post involves substantial training and capacity-building functions.

Candidates must be in possession of a Degree or National Diploma in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management or a relevant equivalent qualification, and must have between three and five years' experience at a supervisory or management level in a similar environment, preferably at ASD level. Computer literacy is required, as is a valid driver's licence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical thinking, the ability to apply technology and solve problems, and the capacity to access and utilise information effectively. In addition, the post demands excellent liaison skills, creativity and innovation, financial management, decision-making and facilitation skills. The incumbent must be able to plan, organise, lead and control, and must show competence in change management, project management, presentation, conflict management, training and communication.

Key responsibilities include managing and ensuring the integrity of the LOGIS operational databases; formulating electronic policy for LOGIS based on applicable legislation; and managing security policies within the application. The Deputy Director will also manage LOGIS training, including the formulation, development, maintenance of, and advice on training material that supports logistical supply chain management. Monitoring and evaluating logistical supply chain management courses and materials forms a core part of the role, as does managing LOGIS information and providing support for the marketing of LOGIS. The post also involves updating the Logistics homepage, and designing, formulating and reviewing policies, processes and procedures in line with departmental guidelines, monitoring their implementation. Other duties include managing the evaluation and monitoring of LOGIS, handling feedback on audit queries, managing performance information, and overseeing human resources, finance and assets within the unit. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned logistics and supply chain professional to make a strategic impact within a government department, while contributing to the broader objectives of the DCS as outlined in its Strategic Plan.
