This position offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned logistics and supply chain professional to take on a senior leadership role within the national head office of a government department. As the Deputy Director for Logistical Administration Support, the successful candidate will be based in the Logistics directorate and will be responsible for shaping and overseeing the entire logistical administration framework of the department. This is a strategic and operational role that requires a deep understanding of public service supply chain management, financial regulations, and asset management, with the aim of ensuring efficient, transparent, and compliant logistical support across the organisation.

The ideal candidate must hold a relevant degree or national diploma in Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management, or a closely related qualification. In addition, applicants need between three and five years of supervisory or management experience at the level of Assistant Director (ASD) or equivalent within supply chain management or logistics. Practical knowledge of systems such as LOGIS and LBIS, as well as an understanding of balanced scorecard principles and financial statements, is essential. The role also demands strong computer literacy and a valid driver’s licence, along with a willingness to travel as part of the job. A comprehensive set of competencies is required, including knowledge of Treasury Regulations and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), financial management, problem-solving, decision-making, team leadership, project management, presentation and report-writing skills, conflict management, and time management. The successful candidate must also demonstrate integrity, honesty, assertiveness, confidentiality, client orientation, and the ability to network and influence others, while applying strategic thinking to logistical challenges.

The duties attached to this post are wide-ranging and carry significant responsibility. The Deputy Director will design, formulate, and review logistics administration policies, processes, and procedures in line with departmental guidelines. This includes managing the department’s stores and the assets of the head office, as well as overseeing the ordering and payment processes. Travel arrangements and payments also fall under this role, with direct oversight of the travel management office. The incumbent will analyse logistics reports and provide senior management with advice on current issues affecting the department. Another key responsibility is the compilation of financial statement disclosure notes relating to commitments, accruals, payables, and fruitless and wasteful expenditure. The role further involves monitoring and evaluating adherence to logistical policies across the department, taking corrective action where needed, managing the vendor database and supplier performance, implementing Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment initiatives, and monitoring quotation activities. Additionally, the Deputy Director will manage human resources, finance, assets, and performance information within the unit.

This appointment is made under the Public Service Act, and the position is graded accordingly. It is a demanding but rewarding role for a professional who is ready to contribute to the effective functioning of a national government department. The post is based at the National Head Office, and interested candidates should note that the selection process will consider the competencies and experience outlined above. This is an ideal career move for someone seeking to apply their logistics expertise in a public service context, with a focus on compliance, service delivery, and continuous improvement.
