The incumbent will be responsible for directing and coordinating all ICT operations within the sub-directorate, ensuring that technology services are reliable, secure and aligned with the department’s strategic objectives. As a Level 11 post with an all-inclusive MMS package, the role carries significant managerial accountability and requires a leader who can operate with minimal supervision while driving service excellence across the organisation.

To be considered, applicants must possess a National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Computer Science or Information Technology, together with a valid driver’s licence. A minimum of three years’ junior management experience within an ICT environment is required. In addition, a sound understanding of the RSA Constitution, Public Service Act, Public Administration Management Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, and related human resource and performance management frameworks is essential. The successful candidate will also need strong skills in strategic planning, policy analysis, analytical thinking, problem solving, report writing, communication, interpersonal relations, information management, relationship management, and decision-making, as well as the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The core duties of the Deputy Director: ICT Operations include managing ICT support services to ensure end-user satisfaction and minimal downtime; overseeing the provision of ICT infrastructure such as networks, servers, and communication systems; managing service level agreements with external service providers to guarantee performance and compliance; directing ICT administration services including asset management, licensing, and user access; and managing the human, financial, and material resources of the sub-directorate. This includes planning, organising, and monitoring the work of the team, as well as ensuring that all ICT activities adhere to relevant legislation, policies, and security standards.

This post is subject to public service employment conditions and performance management systems. Shortlisted candidates, including those at SMS level, will be required to undergo two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and an integrity assessment on ethical conduct. Applicants with foreign qualifications must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority. It is important to note that applications must be submitted on the prescribed Z83 form and accompanied by a comprehensive CV; failure to comply with application instructions may lead to disqualification. If you have not been contacted within three months of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.
