This senior executive position within the Limpopo Department of Health’s Provincial Office is responsible for leading and directing the branch dealing with tertiary, specialised and health care support services. As a member of the senior management service, the Deputy Director-General will provide strategic direction and policy leadership, shape service delivery strategy, and ensure that the branch’s programmes align with broader provincial and national health priorities. This is a high-level, all-inclusive SMS appointment requiring someone who can operate effectively in complex and changing circumstances and deliver visible improvements within a health sector environment.

The successful candidate must hold a National Senior Certificate or equivalent, together with a recognised postgraduate health-related degree at NQF level 8, or an equivalent qualification accepted by the South African Qualifications Authority. At least eight years of experience in senior management is required, along with proven experience in the health sector and a strong background in service delivery, turnaround and change management. The role demands sound knowledge of health and related legislation and regulations, understanding of research methodology, and the ability to interact with policy makers and key players in health care. Computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required, as is familiarity with virtual meeting platforms. A valid driver’s licence is required, except for people with disabilities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strategic capability and leadership, people management, programme and project management, financial management, change and knowledge management, service delivery innovation, problem solving and analysis, client orientation, and strong communication skills. Personal attributes should include responsiveness, professionalism, accuracy, flexibility, independence, a cooperative and supportive team ethos, and the ability to lead and listen under difficult circumstances.

The core duties include providing leadership and strategic direction in the branch, managing the coordination of tertiary and specialised health care support services, overseeing forensic medical services, managing specialised and private health services, and managing human resources in line with relevant legislation and departmental directives. The post therefore requires both high-level policy capability and an operational focus on ensuring that quality support services are delivered across the province’s health facilities.

Applicants must comply strictly with the application conditions set out in the circular; failure to do so may result in disqualification. A fully completed and signed new Z83 form and a comprehensive CV are required, and online submissions must follow the prescribed format. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA and proof of evaluation submitted. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews and bring certified copies of all relevant qualifications, current registration with any relevant statutory body, and identity documents. All shortlisted SMS candidates will also undergo two pre-entry assessments, one practical and one integrity or ethical conduct assessment, and the technical exercise will be scored as part of the interview. These requirements reflect the high integrity and competency standards expected of senior public service leaders. By applying, candidates agree to all the conditions and requirements of the post. This is a demanding executive role for an experienced health-sector leader ready to drive transformation, accountability and service excellence in Limpopo.
