The Department of Health in Limpopo is seeking two suitably qualified and experienced financial professionals to fill the role of Deputy Director: Financial Budgeting, Revenue and Debt Management. One post is based at the Sekhukhune District Office and the other at the Mopani District Office, making this an opportunity for candidates prepared to work at district level within the public health sector. The position is a senior management post at salary level 11 with an all-inclusive remuneration package, and it forms part of the department’s broader effort to strengthen financial governance, accountability and service delivery. The incumbent will be expected to act with a high degree of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality, and to provide strategic direction in the management of the district’s financial resources.

Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12, together with an NQF level 6 qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, Economics or an equivalent field recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority. In addition, at least five years of experience in financial management is required, with no fewer than three of those years at junior management or Assistant Director level. While not compulsory, membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors or eligibility to register as a CA(SA) will be an added advantage. The role demands strong computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with virtual meeting platforms. A valid driver’s licence is an inherent requirement, except for applicants with disabilities who are exempt from this condition.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations, together with working knowledge of BAS, LOGIS and other financial systems used in the public sector. Familiarity with the government Standards Chart of Accounts is also expected. The department is looking for someone who is assertive, self-driven, innovative and client-focused, with excellent interpersonal, communication, report writing and presentation skills. The ability to manage multiple projects, think strategically, and remain calm under pressure is essential. Personal attributes such as honesty, integrity, flexibility, responsiveness, accuracy, and a supportive team-player attitude are highly valued, as is the capacity to manage interpersonal conflict and resolve problems effectively.

The main duties of the post include developing and ensuring the implementation of financial policies, guidelines and procedures; managing revenue and debt; overseeing financial budgeting and reporting; and managing physical, human and financial resources. The Deputy Director will also need to promote continuous improvement, customer focus, diversity management and the development of others within the team. Shortlisted candidates should note that the selection process includes a practical exercise and an integrity assessment, and that certified copies of qualifications, identity documents and professional registrations must be produced at the interview. Applicants with foreign qualifications are responsible for obtaining SAQA evaluation before applying. Prospective applicants are reminded to read the full conditions and requirements of the post carefully, as failure to comply with the application instructions will result in disqualification.
