The Deputy Director: Business Continuity and Compliance position is a senior management role based in Pretoria within the Government Printing Works (GPW), responsible for establishing and embedding a robust business continuity and compliance culture across the organisation. Reporting within a sub-directorate, the post holder will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure that GPW can anticipate, respond to, and recover from disruptions while also meeting its legislative and corporate governance obligations. The role is graded at a senior administrative level and offers an all-inclusive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities involved.
Candidates must hold a Grade 12 certificate as well as a recognised NQF Level 7 degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Risk Management, Business Continuity, Internal Audit, Finance, Law, ICT, or Risk Management. At least three years of experience in Business Continuity Management at the Assistant Director level is required. A valid driver’s licence is an added advantage. The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of key public service legislation, including the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act and Skills Development Act, as well as the Public Finance Management Act, the Financial Framework and Treasury Regulations. Familiarity with good corporate governance principles embodied in the King III Report and the broader human resources legislative framework is also essential.
The core responsibilities are wide-ranging. The Deputy Director will drive the establishment and implementation of a Business Continuity Management process, which includes conducting Business Impact Analyses and BCM risk assessments, developing BCM policies, strategies, response plans, test plans, tools and guidelines, and facilitating ongoing testing, monitoring and reviews. The post also involves establishing a formal BCM governance structure, such as a Business Continuity Committee and BCM champion forums, developing terms of reference, organising committee meetings and performing secretariat functions. On the compliance side, the role requires developing and implementing a compliance policy and framework, managing compliance risk plans, creating a compliance universe and calendar, and preparing quarterly compliance reports for management and oversight committees. The position is also responsible for fostering a sound culture of business continuity and compliance through training, awareness campaigns and culture assessment surveys across all GPW personnel, including regional offices. Finally, the Deputy Director will manage the sub-directorate, which entails overseeing equipment utilisation, conducting performance appraisals, developing job descriptions, building staff capacity, and contributing to monthly and quarterly reports and business planning aligned to the organisation’s strategic plan.
Applicants should note the specific application conditions. A completed new Z83 form and a CV must be submitted as a single, combined PDF attachment, with the job title and reference number clearly indicated on the subject line. Faxed, late or incorrectly completed applications will not be considered, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, with certified copies of qualifications required at the interview stage. Shortlisted candidates may be subjected to pre-entry assessments, psychometric testing, integrity checks and a full personnel suitability check, including criminal, citizenship, credit and qualification verification. These measures underline the high standard of governance and accountability expected in this role.
