This is a permanent data capturer position based at the King Campus of Lovedale TVET College, and it is a re-advertisement under the PERSAL appointment system. The successful candidate will join the college’s administrative and information management team, playing a central role in ensuring that student and academic records are accurately captured, maintained, and securely stored across the institution’s systems. The role sits within the broader public service education environment, requiring a solid understanding of TVET operations, data management protocols, and the legislative frameworks that govern public service administration.
Applicants must hold a Grade 12 or Matric Certificate, or an NQF Level 4 equivalent, and ideally a National Diploma or Degree in Business Studies. At least one to two years of relevant working experience in a TVET or public service data capturing system is required. A certificate in MS Office or proven knowledge of the software will be an added advantage. The role demands strong computer literacy and information management skills, as well as a working knowledge of office management prescripts, COLTECH, data warehouse systems, and IT systems. Familiarity with the Skills Development Act, Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, and Labour Relations Act is also expected. In addition, the ideal candidate should demonstrate planning and organising abilities, financial management awareness, report writing skills, effective communication and interpersonal relations, problem solving, analytical thinking, client orientation, project management, team leadership, people management, and computer literacy.
The core duties involve capturing data from various records into required formats such as systems, databases, tables, and spreadsheets. This includes capturing student registrations, receipts of payment, and issuing student numbers, as well as enrolment forms during the registration period. The data capturer will also capture ICAS, ISAT, and final examination marks, submit marks to the EMIS Officer, and record student absenteeism. A key responsibility is reviewing and validating all data to ensure integrity, identifying missing data and errors, and completing hard copy mark sheets that serve as attendance registers in examination venues. The role also involves submitting data and mark sheets to lecturers in the internal marking venue, making regular backups, maintaining and updating system records, keeping files properly sorted and secured, providing information to relevant components, and emailing result schedules to Campus Heads, HODs, and Senior Lecturers.
This position is advertised through a public service circular and is subject to several conditions. All applications must include a signed and fully completed Z83 form, a comprehensive CV with at least three contactable references, and a SAQA evaluation report for foreign qualifications. Successful candidates will undergo vetting, including criminal record, citizenship, qualification, and employment verification. Shortlisted candidates may also be required to complete pre-entry assessments, including a practical exercise and an integrity assessment. Lovedale TVET College is an equal opportunities employer and encourages people living with disabilities to apply. The college reserves the right not to fill the post or to withdraw it at any time. Applicants who have not been contacted within six months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful. Incomplete Z83 forms will lead to disqualification, and communication will only be entered into with shortlisted and successful candidates.
