This position is for a Data Capture officer based at the Botlokwa One Stop Centre within the Capricorn District, operating under the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure. The role is a developmental opportunity aimed at unemployed South African youth who are seeking workplace experience, and it forms part of the department’s broader Graduate Internship Programme. Appointed candidates will serve on a fixed-term contract of 24 months, with the internship expected to commence in early April 2027 and conclude at the end of March 2029. While the post is graded at level 04, it is important to note that interns receive a monthly stipend in line with the Department of Public Service and Administration’s directive on developmental programmes in the public service.
To be considered, applicants must hold an appropriate recognised qualification at NQF level 4, which is equivalent to Grade 12, or another qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority. Beyond the formal qualification, the role demands a solid set of practical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential, along with competent typing skills and overall computer literacy. The successful candidate will also need strong communication abilities, both written and verbal, as well as problem-solving skills to address data-related issues as they arise. Planning and organising capabilities are important, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Good interpersonal skills are also required, given that the role involves liaising with colleagues and verifying information from various sources.
The core duties of the Data Capture officer revolve around maintaining accurate and reliable information within the departmental data systems. This includes capturing data into quarterly and annual reports, ensuring that all captured information is complete and correctly recorded. The role also involves verification and review of captured data, as well as validation of the means of verification to confirm that the data is supported by proper evidence. Another key responsibility is identifying and correcting duplicated records, which helps maintain the integrity of the department’s databases. The officer will be expected to maintain the departmental data system on an ongoing basis and perform regular system verification checks to ensure high data quality standards are upheld.
Applicants should be aware that this is an equal opportunity and affirmative action position. The department actively encourages women and people living with disabilities to apply. Only candidates who have never participated in any Public Service Graduate Internship programme in a government department are eligible. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to security clearance, qualification verification, and a personnel suitability check. They will also be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise to test technical and generic suitability for the post, and another to assess integrity and ethical conduct. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. Certified copies of the identity document, Grade 12 certificate, and other qualifications will only be required from shortlisted candidates on or before the interview date. The department reserves the right not to make an appointment, and correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only. If no feedback is received within three months after the closing date, applicants should consider their applications unsuccessful. Candidates attending interviews are responsible for their own transport, accommodation, and meal costs.
