This position offers an opportunity to serve as a Customer Relations Officer within the Registration and Compliance unit of the Western Cape Mobility Department, a provincial government body responsible for transport regulation and administration. The role is central to the smooth operation of the department’s public-facing services, particularly around the processing and management of operating licence applications and related compliance matters. As a customer relations officer, you will act as a key point of contact for members of the public, applicants, and other stakeholders, ensuring that enquiries are handled professionally and that administrative processes run efficiently. The post is graded at level 07 and forms part of the broader administrative support structure within the department, contributing to the effective implementation of transport legislation and regulatory frameworks.
To be considered for this role, candidates must hold an appropriate three-year tertiary qualification at NQF level 6, such as a National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree, in customer or client services, customer care, or a closely related field. In addition, a minimum of one year of relevant administrative support experience is required. The department is looking for individuals who can apply and administer key legislation, including the Public Service Act, the National Land Transport Act, the Road Transportation Act, and the Western Cape Road Transportation Amendment Law, as well as associated regulations. Practical knowledge of financial processes in line with the Public Finance Management Act and Treasury regulations is also expected. Strong computer literacy, numeracy, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and sometimes work irregular hours.
The main duties of the post involve rendering assistance with the handling of enquiries, providing client service and application administration, supporting business process improvement, and delivering operational and administrative support services. This includes processing applications for operating licences, managing the functions of a Walk-In-Centre, and supporting financial management, monitoring, and reporting procedures within the directorate. You will also be expected to compile and present reports, conduct research, plan and organise activities, and perform legal administration tasks as required.
Shortlisted candidates should note that the selection process includes interviews, the submission of vetting and supporting documentation, and two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise and one integrity assessment. The department’s employment equity targets will guide the selection process, and by applying, candidates consent to reference checks with previous employers, including enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. This is a demanding but rewarding role for someone with a strong customer service orientation and a keen interest in transport regulation and public administration.
