This position offers an opportunity to serve as a Customer Relations Officer within the Provincial Regulatory Entity based in Eden, operating under the Western Cape Mobility Department of the Western Cape Government. The role sits at the heart of the province’s transport regulatory environment, where the incumbent will support the administration and enforcement of key transport legislation, including the National Land Transport Act, the Road Transportation Act, the Western Cape Road Transportation Amendment Law, and the National Land Transport Regulations. The work is situated within a Provincial Regulatory Entity, meaning the officer will help manage the functions, activities, processes and procedures that keep the entity running, with a strong focus on processing applications for operating licences and ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met.

To be considered, candidates need an appropriate three-year tertiary qualification, such as a National Diploma or a bachelor’s degree, together with at least one year of relevant administrative support experience. Beyond the formal qualifications, the role demands a solid working knowledge of legislation, regulatory frameworks, policies and best practices relevant to the line function, as well as the ability to use information systems that support knowledge and information management. The successful candidate will be expected to administer the various transport laws and regulations mentioned above, manage financial processes in line with the Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury Regulations, Provincial Treasury Instructions and other applicable financial policies, and perform general office administration and database management. Strong skills in numeracy, literacy, computer use, communication, project management, accounting, finance, audit, legal administration, and economic, financial and statistical analysis are all essential. The ability to compile and present reports, solve problems, plan and organise activities, conduct research, work effectively under pressure, work irregular hours when required, and meet tight deadlines is also critical.

In terms of day-to-day responsibilities, the officer will render assistance with the handling of enquiries, provide client service and application administration, contribute to business process improvement and operational support, and deliver administrative support services across the directorate. This includes managing financial monitoring and reporting procedures, systems and reports, and ensuring that all administrative and regulatory processes run smoothly and in compliance with applicable prescripts and collective agreements.

Shortlisted candidates should note that the selection process includes interviews, the submission of vetting and supporting documentation within a specified timeframe, and two pre-entry assessments: one practical exercise testing technical and generic suitability, and one integrity assessment focusing on ethical conduct. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department. By applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for employment references, which may include enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. This is a demanding but rewarding role for someone who thrives in a regulated, fast-paced public service environment and is committed to upholding the integrity of transport law administration.
