The Civilian Secretariat for Police Service invites unemployed South African graduates to apply for two internship positions within its Corporate Services unit, based in Pretoria. These posts form part of the department's 2026/2028 Internship Programme, which offers a structured, non-renewable contract period of twenty-four months of practical workplace experience. The Secretariat serves as the civilian oversight body for the South African Police Service, and the Corporate Services directorate plays a central role in ensuring the efficient administration, information management and technological support that underpin the department's core mandate. Interns appointed to these positions will therefore be placed in an environment where they can develop professionally while contributing to the smooth functioning of a public service entity.

To be considered, applicants must hold a completed National Diploma or a degree in Information Technology or Computer Science, obtained from an accredited institution of higher learning. Candidates must be unemployed South African graduates and must not have previously participated in an internship programme within the Public Service, ensuring that the opportunity is directed at individuals who have not yet had access to a government internship. The selection process will give preference to candidates whose appointment promotes representativity in terms of race, gender and disability, in line with the department's employment equity commitments.

While the specific day-to-day duties will be assigned within the Corporate Services environment, the interns can expect to be engaged in tasks that draw directly on their IT and computer science training. This may include providing technical support to departmental staff, assisting with the maintenance and security of information systems, supporting data management and record-keeping processes, and helping to implement digital solutions that improve the efficiency of the Secretariat's operations. The internship is intended to bridge the gap between academic study and the workplace, giving graduates exposure to the practical application of their skills in a government setting and building a foundation for future careers in the public service or the broader ICT sector.

Applicants are reminded that a fully completed Z83 application form, as prescribed by the Public Service Act, must be submitted together with a detailed curriculum vitae that clearly indicates positions held, dates and key performance areas. Certified copies of qualifications and other relevant documents are not required at the application stage, but shortlisted candidates will need to produce these before the interview. Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates only, and those who do not receive feedback within one month of the closing date should accept that their application was unsuccessful. This is an excellent opportunity for recent IT graduates to gain meaningful government work experience and contribute to the digital transformation of police oversight in South Africa.
