This position offers an opportunity to serve as a Community Development Worker for Region B, specifically covering Ndull within the Witzenberg Municipality, under the Department of Local Government in the Western Cape Government. The role is central to bridging the gap between communities and government services, ensuring that residents in this region understand what services are available and how to access them. Working within a broader provincial framework, the successful candidate will act as a vital link, helping to make government more responsive and accessible to local needs.

To be considered, applicants must hold a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification at NQF level 4. Beyond the formal qualification, the role demands a solid understanding of applicable policies, legislation, guidelines, standards, procedures and best practices within the public service. Knowledge of the composition of Western Cape communities and how they function is essential, as is the ability to facilitate public participation in policy making and service delivery. The ideal candidate will bring strong project organisation skills, interpersonal abilities, and report writing expertise, alongside proven computer literacy in MS Office. Self-management, adherence to timelines, and effective written and verbal communication are also critical competencies for succeeding in this dynamic environment.

The core duties involve informing and assisting communities with access to services provided by government structures, as well as identifying community needs and communicating these to the relevant authorities. The role also requires promoting networks and enhancing the activities of existing local community workers to improve service delivery. Regular reporting is a key component, with the expectation to compile documents and reports on progress, issues attended to, actions taken, and outcomes achieved. Staying up to date with all government services, processes and mechanisms for accessing them is essential to providing accurate guidance to the public.

Shortlisted candidates should be prepared for a rigorous selection process. They will be required to attend interviews on a date determined by the department and must submit duly completed and signed vetting and supporting documentation within the timeframe communicated by the Western Cape Government prior to the interview. Failure to provide these documents within the prescribed period, without reasonable justification, may result in disqualification from further consideration. Additionally, all shortlisted candidates will undertake two pre-entry assessments: a practical exercise to evaluate suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements, and an integrity assessment focusing on ethical conduct. The selection process will be guided by the employment equity targets of the employing department. By applying, candidates consent to the Western Cape Government contacting previous employers or managers for employment references, which will include enquiries about disciplinary records and reasons for leaving. It is important to ensure that applications are submitted before the closing date, as late submissions will not be accepted. This role offers a meaningful chance to contribute directly to community empowerment and improved service delivery in the Western Cape.
