This vacancy is for a Community Development Supervisor Grade 1, a single post based in the Sekhukhune District at Elias Motsoaledi, within the Department of Social Development. The role is a supervisory position within the occupation-specific dispensation, and it calls for an experienced professional who can lead community development practitioners, manage projects and structures, and ensure that integrated development interventions are implemented in partnership with local communities and relevant stakeholders. The supervisor acts as a bridge between the department and the community, ensuring that government programmes are responsive to local dynamics and that community members are empowered to participate in their own development.
To be considered, applicants need a Grade 12 certificate plus an appropriate qualification at NQF level 6 in Development Studies, Diaconiology, Social Sciences, Community Development, Sociology, Population Studies, Demography, or an equivalent field recognised by SAQA. In addition, at least seven years of relevant experience in community development is required, gained after obtaining the qualification. A valid motor vehicle driver's licence is essential, although persons with disabilities are exempt from this requirement. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of individual and group behaviour, community structures, and the legislation that governs social interventions. They must be able to manage community development projects, influence individuals and groups to take part in self-empowerment initiatives, and possess research, report writing, problem-solving, conflict resolution, presentation, project management, people management, and financial management skills. Computer literacy and knowledge of the Public Service Management Framework, including the PFMA and the Labour Relations Act, are also required.
The main duties include managing community development structures and projects, supervising the identification and facilitation of integrated interventions, and supporting community development practitioners to ensure effective communication and coordination with internal and external role players. The supervisor will also perform administrative support functions and stay abreast of new developments in the community development field to enhance service delivery.
The department's recruitment process includes several conditions. Shortlisted candidates will undergo security clearance, qualification verification, and pre-entry assessments covering practical suitability and ethical conduct. The recommended candidate will be subject to a personnel suitability check. Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA. The employment decision will be informed by the department's Employment Equity Plan, and the department reserves the right not to fill the post. Candidates who are not contacted within three months of the closing date should consider their application unsuccessful, and they may seek reasons under the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act. The department does not cover travel, accommodation, or meal costs for interview attendance.
