CLINICAL TECHNOLOGIST GRADE 1 – 3

This position is for a Clinical Technologist within the Nephrology, Cardiology and Neurophysiology department of the Limpopo Department of Health, offering opportunities at Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3 levels depending on the candidate’s post-registration experience. The role is central to the delivery of specialised diagnostic and therapeutic services, with a strong emphasis on renal dialysis, cardiac procedures, and neurological testing. To be considered for this role, you must hold an appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Technologist, and you must currently be registered with the HPCSA in Independent Practice. The grade at which you enter will depend on your years of relevant experience after registration: Grade 1 requires no post-registration experience, Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years, and Grade 3 requires a minimum of twenty years. In addition to clinical qualifications, you must be computer literate in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and be comfortable using virtual meeting platforms. These technical skills are essential for record-keeping, reporting, and communication within the department.

The core duties of the role involve preparing and calibrating medical equipment before procedures, performing quality control checks, and carrying out procedures including renal dialysis according to the medical prescription and in a safe manner. You will be responsible for providing optimal patient care within your scope of practice, which includes managing and maintaining all medical equipment in line with standards and procedures, ensuring strict infection control, and overseeing stock management. You will also need to maintain and update patient clinical records accurately and promptly. As part of your responsibilities, you will collaborate with all team members and supervise staff as assigned, so strong leadership and teamwork skills are important.
