This position is for a Clinical Technologist Grade 1, 2 or 3 within the Nephrology, Cardiology and Neurophysiology departments of the Limpopo Department of Health. The role is central to the safe delivery of specialised diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, with a strong focus on renal dialysis services. As a Clinical Technologist, you will be responsible for preparing, calibrating and maintaining medical equipment used in these units, performing quality control procedures, and ensuring that all devices operate according to prescribed standards. You will also perform procedures, including dialysis, strictly according to medical prescription and within the scope of practice, while providing optimal patient care. The work requires a professional who can balance technical precision with compassion, and who understands the importance of infection control and stock management in a clinical environment.
Candidates must hold an appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Technologist, and must currently be registered with the HPCSA in Independent Practice. The grade at which you enter depends on your experience after registration: Grade 1 requires no prior experience, Grade 2 requires a minimum of ten years of relevant experience, and Grade 3 requires at least twenty years of relevant experience. In addition, you need computer literacy in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with virtual meeting platforms, as these are used for reporting, communication and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The main duties include preparing and calibrating equipment for medical procedures, performing quality control, carrying out dialysis and other procedures as prescribed, managing and maintaining all medical equipment, ensuring infection control and stock management, and keeping accurate, up-to-date patient clinical records. You will work closely with all team members and may be required to supervise staff as assigned. The ideal candidate is a person of integrity who performs well under pressure, works independently and as part of a team, and is self-driven and results-oriented. Strong communication, report writing, presentation and interpersonal skills are essential.
This is a provincial government vacancy, and the position is graded according to the Occupational Specific Dispensation (OSD) for clinical technologists, with progression based on years of service and experience. The post is advertised through the Limpopo Department of Health's e-recruitment portal, and interested applicants should note the closing date and application instructions provided alongside this summary. All appointments are subject to the relevant HR and verification processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified clinical technologist seeking a challenging yet rewarding role in a public healthcare setting, where your skills will directly contribute to patient safety and outcomes in nephrology, cardiology and neurophysiology.
